In 1988 when Carcass unleashed 'Reek of Putrefaction' no one would have thought 8 years later the Liverpool death metal legends would release an album of catchy, heavy metal....but they did.

Although, shocking and very different from the bands early days of medically inspired gore grind death metal and being hardcore fans least favourite this is still a fantastic album.

Containing such gems as 'Childs Play', 'Firm Hand', 'Cross my Heart' and 'Keep on Rotting in the Free World' which all stand out very well and are all brilliantly structured tracks with catchy, groove ridden riffs.

'Tomorrow Belongs to Nobody' remains the key track on the album, nothing more to say than the track is amazing!

As a big Bathory fan, this is a must. With such raw masterpieces of early black metal like Total Destruction and Winds of Mayhem, the sophomore outing of Bathory is just as important as the first. Although not as brilliant as the following Under The Sign Of the Black Mark, this has some cool black metal songs on it.

As with any Bathory release, there is hardly any production to speak of, but the only thing you miss is the drums, so it's not too bad...

There are quite a few songs on here, and so they are all in the sam evein. Songs like born For Burning and Total Destruction are the best though, as well as Possessed and The Return Of Darkness And Evil. Nice speed, and lovely proto-black metal screamy voice make this a nostalgic release ... Read More:

185.Toxicity [CD 2] by: System Of A Down

Music : Toxicity [CD 2]
I'm presuming if you're here, reading this, you've already heard the track 'Toxicity'. Well, there wouldn't be any point buying it if you didn't like it, now would there?

But if you're wondering why you should buy the single if you already have the album, I have two words for you. They would be 'Metro' and 'Marmelade'. These two tracks aren't on the albums, but are as excellent as anything SOAD have ever done.

'Metro' is a personal favourite of mine. Don't be put off by the knowledge that it's a cover version of a song by '80's band Berlin (as in 'take my breath away' fame). You would never guess in a million years. Serj shows off his superb vocal range, singing like a sweetheart, demon and total mental case in turn! Daron's mad guitar ... Read More:

Music : The Beginning: Remastered
So this is were it all started. This is a really good realease of early mercyful Fate tracks. The first 4 tracks are from Mercyful Fate's debue EP realesed in 1982 the highlight of which has to be "Doomed By The Living Dead" which they still play live now. The next are recordings off the Radio 1 rock show (From the days when radio 1 used to play good music). The recordings sound rawer than any thing King Diamond has ever done. The final track is a different recording of Black Funeral from the "Melissa", version which was recored for the Metallic Storm Album. If you are a fan of any of Mercyful Fate's other work then this is really a must have collection.

188.Set the World on Fire by: Annihilator

Music : Set the World on Fire
Annihilator are quite possibly the most underrated metal band on the planet. Dismissed by certain magazines and ignored by many fans of the genre, the band have soldiered on regardless and consistently delivered album after album of quality, melodic thrash metal.

Band Leader Jeff waters is not only a great songwriter but a truly astonishing guitarist. These qualities are highly evident on "Set the world on Fire". Rather than being a one dimensional slab of ultra speedy thrash, the record reveals the sheer range of the bands considerable musical repertoire. There is the usual quota of power riffing, but the heavier numbers are tempered by mellower tunes such as "Sounds Good to Me" and the beautiful "Phoenix Rising", which show that when they choose ... 189.Domination by: Morbid Angel

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Domination
1995 was probably quite an intimidating time for Morbid Angel. The whole grunge/alt. rock thing was starting to really get into high gear. On the heavier side of music the word 'industrial' was starting to be mentioned in closer and closer circles to the mainstream. Extreme metal bands must have been wondering what, if anything the future held for them. This is somewhat evident on David Vincent's last studio album with the band and shows the only discernible signs of compromise in their long and eminent career.

Of course when I mean compromise, I mean Morbid Angel style compromise. Because after all every one of their albums is different, from the blistering, straight ahead speed workout of Altars of Madness to the complex and epic Blessed are the Sick ... Read More:
