The way I see it, Sepultura released three suberb, classic albums in a row(arguably four if you loved the Roots album). These are Beneath the Remains (1989), Arise (1991)and Chaos AD (1993). Beneath was where the band had burst onto the international metal scene with their mixture of pure speed and aggression with complex songwriting skills in a way that ensured a classic album. Chaos AD was were the band truly became unique and one of the first groove metal acts, whilst adding significant tribal influences on their music.
Arise could be seen as a bridge between Beneath and Chaos, although it's overall sound is closer to Beneath than Chaos. This is because the band did add a few tribal infuenced to their thrash here. For example, the ... Read More:

After their slightly patchy debut album and a change in personel, Anthrax's secnd album is undeniably a classic of the thrash genre. Most fans will point to 'Among the Living' as the band's defining moment, but it's really hard to find any fault with this 1985 offering, as from the opening moments of 'A.I.R.' the album spews out a seemingly endless collection of killer riffs, while new vocalist Joe Bellandonna's melodic vocals provide numerous catchy choruses. 'Spreading the Disease' ranges from such relatively melodic songs as the insanely catchy 'Medusa' and 'Lone Justice', which at times sounds almost Iron Maiden-ish, to the full on thrash of tracks like 'Gung-Ho' and 'Aftershock'. The band themselves have at times stated a despair at being unable ... Read More:

Alot of people seemed to lose interest in Suicidal after their first two albums which is shame as they were getting stronger and stronger all the time. I think this album is among one of their best, combining the best moments from their self-titled debut and the slower approach seen previously on Join the Army. This album is packed full of classics and kicks major ass. The lyrics are also Mike's best yet as they have a lot more depth to them than previously.

Great stuff.

Genre defining? Slightly irrelevant now like all 80's "Thrash" reviews (I know this is a 1990 release) Metallica, Megadeth, testament, Exodus, Atheist, fook the name dropping this album rocks, it is great I love it, if you do too, then fookin A! Joey realises his vocal apex, (no Warblin).
Interesting riffs, quite progressive (only because the tracks are more then 5 minutes long)

Try it, if you don't like it, it should have only cost you a fiver so sell it a a boot fair.

After sampling 'In Legue with Satan' off the great lightnin' to the nations compliaton CD I imediatly bout the first 3 Venom albums and I have to say their debut is the best of the 3 and an absolute classic slab of metal!

Now everyone says Venom are notorious for bad production and they are right, but I have a feeling it was semi-diliberate to try and achieve the heaviest sound they could muster and it pays off, this is a brutal album and must of sounded like pure noise back in 1981(!).

The album opens up on a surprisingly weak song 'Sons of Satan' but dont let that put you off, the title track is a stonecold classic, so much that Iron Maiden completly ripped off the main riff for one of their best songs '2 minutes to midnight', compare ... Read More:

i bought this because i fancied some suicidal and this was the cheapest the shop had to offer. it's nothing amazing, but a good fun listen and something that grows on me after i get over how ridiculous some of the songs are. seeing how it seems to be the cheapest amazon has to offer, you might as well buy it too!

27.Souls of Black by: Testament
September 01, 1990
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

>>More Details
Music : Souls of Black
The begining of the end an acoustic almost spanish sounding intro sweeping with ease into Face in the Sky which is one of the pioneering tracks on the album. This track sets you up for what to expect on the rest of the album with each track flowing seemlessly together. On Souls Of Black, Falling Fast & Absence Of Light Chuck Billy is on top vocal form with a haunting sustain in his voice accompanied by textured riffs 1/2, 3rd and 4th beat thrashy snares, and punchy basslines this album truly is in my personal opinion on par with 'Reign in Blood', 'Rust In Peace' and 'Master Of Puppets' as the be all and end all of the thrash metal movement

Truly Perfect album that flows like a reservoir

Worth a place in any metal fans ... Read More:

I know that sometimes the word underrated can be overused but if you have never heard of Testament, then trust me when I say that they really are one of the most underrated metal bands of all time.

Out of all the thrash bands, if I was forced to say which one they sound like most I would probably say Metallica but only a little, apart from this they have a very original style of sound that is hard to explain. I know that there is always a band that will always be a bigger mainstream success in whatever type of music it is and thrash is no different, I really don't know why Testament weren't bigger than they were not that it bothers me personally as they are right up alongside my favourite metal bands of all time, this is a huge compliment from me considering ... With the "Sound of Perseverance" Death have penned the ultimate metal album, and when i say metal i mean it...i do not mean the best death metal or black metal or...I mean quite simply the ultimate METAL album. From the crushing heaviness and density of opener "Scavenger of Human Sorrow" it only gets better. The best tracks being the monumentally vicious The Flesh And The Power It Holds, the instrumental number Voice of the Soul (which proves once and for all that all the idiots who say metal bands can't play their instruments, are in fact, well, idiots) and the Judas Priest cover Painkiller. Death are as tight as any band and play with a precision and aggression that quite simply no other band can match. Everything from Chuck Schuldiner's visceral vocals to the perfectly ... Read More:

Music : Suicidal Tendencies
It's fast, it's catchy & very, very angry!
There's a rawness but the sound is still decent, and the musicianship is equally good with shed loads of punky riffs & solos and lots of fast, infectious bass lines all over!
Lyrics are equally dark & humourous with some angry, political rants from Mike Muir, who is almost out of breath at times. Certain aspects have inevitably dated but it's not a problem.
It's 100% enjoyable and the 1993 rerecording failed to improve on this!
A real classic, alongside Misfits' Legacy Of Brutality & early DRI!
