Loved the movie, bought the disc. Unlike some movie sound tracks where you wonder how you thought the soundtrack would keep alive the memory of the movie, this one really does. The quirky and independent music mirrors the film's style and characters, witty, unusual and highly entertaining. How can you not love a disc that includes such lyrics as from Kimya Dawson's 'Loose Lips'; "they think we're disposable, well both my thumbs opposable are spelled out on a double word and triple letter score". Awesome.

After watching them at Reading 08 after seeing them back in 05 I thought it necessary to do this;

Puzzle is not an excruiatingly bad album as lots of these reviews are trying to make out. It is just very standard and thats not what Biffy fans expect..if this were an album by any other band I would not have minded but its the band who brought us Some Kind of Wizard, Bodies in Flight and The Go Slow etc. Puzzle just seems like it has very little effort put into it and has just been commercialized. The only track I could honestly say I like was Semi-mental which was a reject from the Infinity Land album.. If you want my advice buy Infinity land, Vertigo and Blackened Sky (also download '98 cathouse gig, not that I condone illegal activities) ... Read More:

After the excellent 'Final Straw', it was expected that Snow Patrol would come up with an album full of bigger tunes and much more ambition aswell. However, that is not the case and this album comes as a big dissapointment.

It's not outright bad, but it certainly shouldn't shouldn't be seen as anything like great. Yes, it does have it's moments. The singles that came off the album are all good. 'You're All I Have' and 'Open Your Eyes' are both catchy tunes. To be honest, 'Chasing Cars' was good at first, but now? Since the song was never off the radio, it became immensely irritating, especially as it is really just a Coldplay rip off. I think this was meant to be Snow Patrol's 'Fix You' but unlike the Coldplay hit, this song is devoid of any emotion. ... Read More:

A 2 CD set of 33 tracks. CD 1 is called the Singles Collection and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Brilliant stuff! What I would describe as beaty, catchy, semi-acoustic songs with a great 60's feel to them. Jacqueline and Put the Sun Back were particular favs but there isn't a weak song here at all. This CD will stay in the car a long time. The second CD is called Mysteries and Rarities. A more mixed bag in terms of musical styles. Diehard fans will probably love it but I found some tracks making me want to hit the skip button pretty quickly. This may be unfair - I've only listened to CD 2 a few times - and perhaps they'll grow on me with time. I do hope so.

The tasters for this album are catchy, and they have been well marketed. After a few listens though, even some of the good songs are (designed to be?) stadium chant-alongs, and, in one case, a stadium swear-along. Stabbed is very poor.
The video is not great quality and perhaps a misguided release, because they don't actually come across all that well. The drummer, Caroline McKay looks shaky and drifts occasionally, which is quite shocking for a band so highly rated.
James Allan makes the most of his Joe Strummer looks though the band dabble in the 1950s rock n roll nuances a wee bit too much. I found some of the songs catchy, but ultimately nothing "new" emerges on repeated listening
With a little more imagination in their arrangements they may ... Read More:

James Morrison reminds me of Terence Trent Derby with his distinctive vocals and cut down style,very few musical instruments,often just acoustic guitar and drums.Echoes of Stevie Wonder and chords and melodies that have a passing resemblance to other artists' songs complete the mix.I really like this album but it wasn't one that i liked first time of hearing.It's an album you need to play and let it grow on you.It's a little raw and naive in places and a little like a live recording of a busker on a city street corner.No bells and whistles,just a guy relying and believing in his talent.This gives it some originality and credit to James Morrison on producing a stunning album that may not be for everyone but will be enjoyed by most.Recommended.

Widely thought of now as Metallica's masterpiece............but not by me. Still, this is a terrific album, furious, ferocious and chock full of the huge riffery, solos and downright Metal-ness that, by that point in time, people expected from the 4 piece. It has a sadness too though that this was Cliff Burton's last album before his untimely death. But for me there is a lingering problem with 'Master' - some of the songs are overlong! I know that sounds silly, but 'Leper Messiah' is the worst example, an overlong jam, with not a lot musically going on, apart from an 11th hour time change that is good, but too little too late. The other is 'Orion' This might offend people because it's been the 'signature' theme to the Metallica videos where footage of Cliff is shown ('Cliff 'Em ... Read More:

I was going to mention Clapton's christening of the Les Paul, Marshall setup, but others have beaten me to it. I liken it's impact to what happened to harp playing when Little Walter and other's deciding to blow through the PA or an early guitar amp. They REDEFINED the sound of the instrument.

So all I'll add is the rhetorical question...can you imagine being a teenage Brit, having been reared on the sounds of the Beatles, Jerry and the Pacemakers, or even the Dave Clark Five, wandering into a London club because someone had recommended the Bluesbreakers, and hearing THIS STUFF? Probably as epiphanic as being a white guy in mid 50's Chicago and having the nerve to wander into the Dew Drop Inn and hearing Muddy, Wolf, or later, Otis Rush and Buddy Guy. Simply put, a life ...
