Sorry to say I had never even heard of Elbow until I caught them on TV at this years Glastonbury.

Liked what I heard and bought the album (before they won the Mercury prize I hasten to add)

Was completely blown away by it. Have since invested in their back catalogue which have been equally impressive. All are highly recommended

It has certainly restored my interest in music .

This is atrocious. Was really looking forward to this but it's been a struggle to play it right through. It has a really grating, ear shredding sound that I just cannot stand. Gave me a headache after about five songs and just annoyed me. The songs just totally lack any structure and it's so obnoxiously mixed and mastered that the end result is a characterless noise that is unpleasant to the ear. Possibly THE most disappointing release of the year (Keane not far behind).
And here's a message to record labels - STOP HAVING CDs MASTERED AT LUDICROUS LEVELS - DYNAMIC COMPRESSION IS KILLING MUSIC!!

I wouldnt usually write reviews but i have to say this is possibly the most revolting piece of "music" i have ever heard, i know its for charity and it is the x factor so i shouldnt have expected much but this really is astonishingly bad. I know music is subjective but anyone who likes this cannot possibly claim to have any degree of taste or appreciation for music. It's a pretty dismal attempt to get money of people who are too selfish to just give it, they need some excuse to 'donate'. The vocals have probably been airbrushed but that really is to be expected considering the lack of talent on the show. The only acceptable excuse to want to listen to this is if youre a small child; one star really is overly generous.

With the critics who are ready to pounce on Oasis' weaknesses at any opportunity, it was always clear that this album would be met with greater anticipation than just about any other record of the last ten years. Whilst playing the CD for the first time, many of the tracks seem rather pedestrian. But, listen to it for a third or fourth time and the snarl and bite of "Bag It Up" and the overwhelming energy of "The Turning" will hit you like a right hook from the fist of Mike Tyson.

No wonder we had to wait for over three years for the band's seventh studio album. "Bag It Up" will blow you away in the same way that "Columbia" did, and the two opening tracks would not seem out of place on the beginning of "Definitely Maybe".

I bought this album as a chance puchase based upon a magazine article that I had read about her. I was unaware of the hype and as they don't play very many of her songs on Classic FM and Radio 4, was also unaware of her music!! The melodies are soulful and her voice mature beyond her years. I just love this album: sad but uplifting - how's that for an oxymoron. Yes it took me back to my childhood in the 60s. I would love for her to cover "Ferry 'cross the Mersey". Comparisons to other artists such as Dusty Springfield are understandable but unfair. To me she sounds like ... well Duffy

Some people have got quite wound up about this guy being popular when there are lots of other "real" blues artists who deserve more attention... I'm no expert, but Seasick Steve's music seems fairly authentic and it's a good listen. The spoken introductions are a little annoying after a while, though, (to me, at least). Maybe he'll lead people on to other sorts of blues, which has to be a good thing. And if you like this, can I recommend you give Chris Whitley a try?

After 3 highly successful albums, Coldplay have reached the stage where they can let go a bit in their music. `Viva la Vida or Death and all his friends' does exactly that, it is like their equivalent of Radiohead's `Kid A'. Despite the annoyingly long title, it seems now that it is widely accepted that the `Viva la Vida' is the much preferred shortening of the title. This is shown through the front cover of the album which doesn't even mention the latter part of the album title.

`Parachutes', `Rush of Blood to the Head' and `X &Y', for me was a progression as each album was better than the previous. Although the sound varied slightly from album to album, the song choice was always the same. For instance, the slow ballad which looks at the positives in ... Read More:

How wonderful that Andrea has left the "Vegas type" songs behind!! This album is superb and we listened to it 3 times in succession before stopping. Every song (old & new to us) was up to the high standard we expect and love to hear. These are the type of popular semi-operatic songs that Andrea can sing so much better than old Englebert hits!

To think I bought this as a small present to accompany my mum's main birthday gift! I might as well have saved my money on the 'big' present!!!

This whole 2-CD compilation has already been played at least 10 times over since I gave it to my mum 2 days ago. She has been thrilled to find some of her all time favourite 'records' by artists such as Bobby Vee, Marty Wilde, Mark Wynter and Johnny Tillotson (as well as the first record she ever bought - Elvis Presley's 'It's Now or Never') presented on this compilation.

In addition to her old favourites, mum really enjoyed the new bonus track by Jason Donovan and Hank Marvin. Worth every penny!

'All The Right Reasons' was Nickelback putting one foot firmly in 'classic rock' territory. This album takes the trend further, at times overstepping the mark entirely. Some of these songs sound like pastiche - think Wolfmother, but not as good. Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, AC/DC... you could probably find a pretty big nod to any of those and more in a song on 'Dark Horse'. It's not bad, but it doesn't sound like Nickelback.
I think the thing that grates on me the most is the lack of subtlety in some of the songs - one look at the song titles and you can pretty much guess where Chad's thought were when writing ('Yes, sex is always the answer, it's never a question 'cos the answer's yes...' Shame really since the song has a good riff). At least 'Animal' was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. ... Read More:
