I'm not from the US, my family hail from Kashmir and I was born in the UK, grew up listening to punk rock but WOW! The soundtrack literally drips with the era and place it hails from; every time I hear a snippet I swear I can feel the heat and smell the wheat - so amazing!

Chad Kroeger is a song writing genious. Not, of course, for ANY of the right reasons, but because he has a truly remarkable ability to churn out some of the most pathetic songs ever recorded and still sell millions of records. For this he deserves credit - in the same way Hitler deserves credit for tricking Europe into allowing him to rise to power.

It is not an exxaggeration in any way to describe Nickelback as the worst band ever. Chad Kroeger is the most listener-insultingly abysmal lyricist that I have ever heard. Before you pre-pubescent fans jump to his defence, I have evidence, in the form of some lines from the album:

"She'd be pissed if she could see the parts of you that I've been kissing"

"It's just ... Read More:

It's a brave band that tries to recreate that mid-90s indie sound. Infact, if you think back to recent years, most bands would rather hark back to the 80s, so when Alphabeat came along, basically trying to reproduce the feel of 90s Scandanavian indie (which let's face it, gave us brilliant bands like the Wannadies and the Cardigans), I have to admit I was very excited.

Thankfully, the album lives up to the obvious hype it generates. 'Fascination' could easily have been a Wannadies song, right down to the slightly punky 'the word is on your lips' chant in the middle. 'Boyfriend' is very reminiscent of the Cardigans around the time of Lovefool, and Stine's voice is just lush. Elsewhere, 'What is Happening' sounds a bit like Blur collaborating with ... Read More:

Since getting this album it's been hard to remove it from my stereo - as soon as it finishes, I can't help but start playing it again! This second album from the boys does not disappoint. It has plenty of radio friendly tracks but it also doesn't fail to deliver the pure dirty rock that the first album boasted. Blind Man is a stand out track, as is Reverend Wrinkle. I heartily recommend this album - go get it!

This Cistercian abbey has a continous history since its foundation. My only criticsm is that according to the Rule Cistercians should chant in the Ambrosian mode - very slow & ponderous, and this CD is a little too fast. One of the plus points is that Cistercians do not have choir boys so the overall effect is a deeper more inspiring chant.

South London's finest Rooty-Toot Maunva (aka Rodney Smith) is back with his fourth and most varied album yet. 3 years since his last release proper, Roots Manuva has shown he is an artist who hasn't been afraid to experiment with his sound, implementing a host of influences from the classic roots-reggae to electro; analogue dub to rocksteady funk. His ability to fuse these base elements into a product that is undeniably his own has led to his music being instantly recognisable, what with the warping dub-plates and skanking electroid melodics. Add to this his sharp, patois-tinged, tongue-in-cheek lyrics that address issues from the music industry to urban society, gal-dem to relationships, and you have the proof behind why Roots is deservedly one of the UK's biggest hip-hop stars. ... 38.ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits by: ABBA

Music : ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits

Nineteen of ABBA's best songs are plenty, but you won't tire of them. It is amazing that four Swedes (Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus as writers and Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog as the main singers) could take such simple English cliches and turn them into pop music magic. Despite sometimes maddeningly simple lyrics, the song arrangements were unnervingly catchy and the multi-level layered compostions are fascinating. The keyboards and synthesizers were used in some of the more ingenious ways during the seventies to produce that unmistakeable ABBA sound. The energy and nearly anthemic enthusiasm eminating from each song marked them all as instant classics, no matter how jaded or synical the listener. It is doubtlful if you read the song list here ... Sadly someone obviously suggested to Robert Plant that this would be a good idea....recording a (mostly) countryesque album with Alison Krauss. They were wrong!! I have no problem with Plant (or anyone else for that matter) trying new things, but please..... this was a bad idea that should have stayed just that.... an idea!! Why on earth so many people feel the need to heap praise on this album is beyond me - it has no redeming qualities to my ears whatsoever - even if Robert Plant is involved.......come to think of it that old story of the Emporer's new clothes comes to mind!!

Songs Without Words
This album is quite lovely. Juliette Pochin (debut album "Venezia") and James Morgan have created something very special. What must have been a very difficult undertaking has been produced and recorded superbly. Some superb performances by wonderful musicians.
A truly wonderful mixture of lovely music.....you do not need to be a fan of the original songs...the music stands on its own and is a real joy. A must for any collection.
