I am literally grimacing as I write this review, such is the lacklustre audio quality of this soundtrack CD of the contraversial but highly popular TV series Deadwood. I rarely buy soundtracks and I have never bought one to a TV show before. Mike Brook interweaved his own original compositions and those of a range of diverse artists so sympathetically with the episodes that I found myself eagerly anticipating the credits each week! I'm very disappointed at the audio quality of this release which detracts from a highly commendable score, not the least of which are tracks by Lyle Lovett, Bukka White and June Carter Cash. I have never bought a Western soundtrack before and I am not a particulary big fan of the genre but this score is one of my all time favourites. It is quite simply absolutely gorgeous.

Jerry Goldsmith's score to the 1979 movie ST Motion Picture is an experience that every score enthusiast should have in their collection. There is no excuse not to own this. The release we have here is the expanded version which people begged Jerry to release for years. For all the wonderful new gems,its still not the "complete" score as some claim here. There is still a lot of classic moments yet to be released. But Jerry made sure that it was'nt complete and himself chose the cues which were to be added to this new release. He's not a fan of "complete scores on disc". Like John Williams, he prefers to release scores on a "selections from" basis. When I saw "Various Artists" on the title I thought that it might be from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, sadly it's not. If you're not familiar with the originals then the quality of this recording is good and is still worth owning, but it's not by the original Artists.

When I saw the film at the cinema, I fell in love with the end song by Rage against The Machine. I had second thoughts about buying the labum at first, because I didn't think the other music would be as good. I was WRONG! The best song without any doubt is Marilyn Manson's 'Rock is Dead', followed closely by Ramstein and Rage Against The Machine. All of the other tracks are incredible too - the likes of The Prodigy, Lunatic Calm, Monster Magnet and Propellerheads swell the ranks of class that spew from this masterful album. Three words for anyone with any doubts - BUY IT NOW!!!!
