I'm a great fan of the biggy soundtrack scorers like John Williams, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith etc. But this soundtrack by Carmine Coppola is wonderful. I've enjoyed this unusual one very much over the years. Carmine broke away from the norms of scoring and put his own personal stamp of individuality on it. The cue where Willard walks down the temple steps after killing Kurtz is eery and very very effective (the track is called "finale" on this release i think). Its one of my favourite sequences in scoring. I cant imagine an orchestra soundtrack having anywhere near the right effect as this did. Brooding power and depressive horror all in one. It somehow felt exactly right for the movie. Buy this CD or miss out.

Good film score played by great orchestra, but the transfer to this cd release is terrible. Someone has swamped the sound in a load of reverb which makes the orchestra sound distant and indistinct. The percussion is mixed so low and reverby that it almost sounds limp particularly at the beginning, this is not the playing but the mix. Shame.

Some people consider "Bug's Life" as not being on the same level of quality as other Pixar productions, but I really can not agree with them. My daughter clearly wouldn't agree either. This is a very funny movie, with a lot of interesting innovations (we will never look at bugs in the same way, me and my family) and a kind of surprising kindness - even the bad guys are shown with some understanding (having chosen the life of parasite racketeers, they are now trapped by it - as much as their ant victims). The principal hero is possibly one of the most likeable characters I ever saw. A little warning - there is one scene at the end, of the final demise of the leader of grasshoppers, that can impress the littlest children (under 6) - otherwise this ... Read More:

This book focuses on "sport" - first the Quidditch World Cup and then the Triwizard Tournament - so much I actually miss some of the Hogwarts everyday life. But as always it's an unpredictable plot introducing Mad-Eye Moody among other soon to be important characters and bringing Voldemort back in full force, which bodes "well" for the last three books I've read all seven books in Danish at least twice each. Now I'm going through the lot in English - in the right order that is - and have just finished this one. Okay, I have to admit that I couldn't wait for the Deathly Hallows to be published in Danish, and it was the first of them I read in English first. I am constantly amazed by the depth and strength of J.K.Rowlings writing. Even in the first book of the series `Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone`, when the writing was simpler and more geared to Harry`s then age-group, there were complexities visible to older readers. As the characters have aged so has the style and content changed and, as Rowling herself says, become darker. No longer does every book end on a more or less happy note. The violence, torture and death of an adult world are beginning to impinge on Hogwarts and to increasingly affect Harry and his friends. On an emotional level too the characters are changing although there is always the typical J.K.Rowling wit and humour! She has the gift of a quality writer for creating a vivid picture ... This Cd is well worth buying. Firstly it is excellent value for a double disc with over 2 and a half hours of music.The sound is superb and the varition is well mixed and suited. Highlight of this album for me are the haunting and divine Due Tramonti by Ludovico Einaudi (a genius!), a new choir arrangement of Barber's masterpiece Adagio for strings, Chopin's Nocturn Op.72/1 (as featured in 1 of last years best films "The Pianist"). Other highlights come from Arvo Part, Mascagni and Satie. Featured performers include Lesley Garrett, the Philharmonica Orchestra, Trinity College Choir. A fantastic album at a fantastic price, well worth getting, putting your feet up and relaxing and enjoying the beautiful music.
