An excelent album, this compilation manages to bring together all the greatest songs from the most well known films, who would have thought it was possible, and only in 3 CD's! An excelent present for christmas or birthdays for any film fanatics or anyone who can apreciate good music definatly top of my christmas list this year!

Ralph Bakshi's 1978 animated movie was quite justifiably a box office flop...and for many reasons. However, Leonard Rosenman's magnificent score is definately NOT one of them!! Rosenman has written many film scores, notably including 'Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home', but this is his best work by far and a truly exceptional soundtrack album that compliments Tolkien's world perfectly.....it's original, complex, subtle, moving, dark in places...and unlike many film scores this one does not just continually vary the main theme!! In Fact, each of Middle Earth's races has it's own distinct 'feel', something Howard Shore also focused on for his celebrated score for Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings movies some 20 odd years later! ...
