A fantastic OST - easily up there with the likes of Gladiator, Revenge Of The Sith and Conan The Barbarian! Very majestic music, epic and sweeping; my favourite piece is the terrifying Minas Morgul, but there is music here to suit every taste, and crucially, just as in the movie, it sits together perfectly. A great one for soundtrack collectors, and Classical people if they can put aside pretensions as Howard Shore is one of the finest of his type. My background is in Heavy Rock/Metal, but I've always been into powerful, orchestral stuff such as The Ring Cycle and The Planets - this sits alongside, and I'd recommend any Metal fan to branch out into this world as the 2 genres compliment one another. This set is so basic I felt a bit ripped off. Inside the card box are the three DVD cases with bland looking covers, and inside were bare looking discs - it looks and feels like a cheap fake - but its the genuine article. I fell asleep during the "extras" disc.

the reviews next to the item I purchased are not applicable to this disc. There is no original soundtrack and Robin Williams is not on it nor are most of the original songs!

Having come to this album through the film, I never cease to be amazed at how Bob Dylan got this so right. Usually, soundtracks are bitty and without the film action to guide them, seem spare. This is not the case of PAT GARRETT..., which is so convincing an album in its own right. I guess the style fitted in well with his own country blues leanings of BLONDE ON BLONDE and the later BLOOD ON THE TRACKS, (which must have been his reward from the Byrds and their having used so many of his songs in the past). Dylan threads his themes very well, and there is a touch of repetition that might have been borrowed from classical sources (to the great benefit of the album). Yes, I'll admit to being a fan of John Williams and haven't heard a score yet where he has failed to give something new and not fallen back on his already considerable laurels. This is another and takes you across the ebaches and through the fields of Normandy with the men searching for Pte Ryan. There are no character themes as his his usual method and the the score focuses on the whole, illuminating the tragedy of the story in stirring symphonies and choral tributes. An excellent soundtrack to an amazing movie and one to take a deserved place in any devotee's collection of movie music.

Thes original recordings of the time give a real insight into the music hall stars of the war. The songs telling young boys to go and die in the trenches send shivers down your spine. The joy in the 1918 recordings make you feel the relief of Peace at last, and the propaganda speeches by a twenty year old boy soon to die is chilling. Really not to be missed - a piece of history.

This is very enjoyable, and Dido's 'When I am laid in the cold ground' is especially moving, especially at this time of year! (England in a damp November!)

I really don't know why it's taken me so long to buy this album, this is without doubt Jon Bon Jovi's best solo CD. I don't think that I can add anything new that the other reviewers havn't already said because this really is a brilliant album. My favorite tracks are "Blaze Of Glory", "Billy Get Your Guns", "Dyin' Ain't Much Of A Living" and "Never Say Die". Don't wait for as long as I did, buy this incrediable rock gem today!

A lovely collection of music for relaxing or studying, most of the tracks are just a single movement or piece from the full score, which is probably all that is required for most listeners as it does make the music instantly recognizable and familiar. There is an abundance of these types of collections though and many are box sets offering better value than this single CD. It forms part of a series by Classic FM (including albums dedicated to Babies, Mothers, Studying, Driving, Bathtime, Dinner Parties, Christmas, Romance, Weddings) so it may appeal to those wanting to get the entire collection and build a modest library of varied classical music.
