When the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band embarked on this project, they invited Bill Monroe to take part but he declined. He regretted that decision once he heard the album, which took him and everybody else by surprise. While Bill was absent, other top country and bluegrass singers and musicians participated. These included Mother Maybelle Carter, Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Roy Acuff, Merle Travis and Jimmy Martin. Nobody intended that a triple LP would be released but all the participants had so much fun recording together that they recorded a lot more material than they originally intended. Ring of Fire Volume 1 was the perfect introduction to Johnny Cash for young listeners, featuring twenty one of his classics like Folsom Prison Blues and Hey Porter!, add that to a successful biopic Walk The Line, Johnny Cash only continues to grow in his status. Its been nearly four years since his tragic death, and ultimately Volume 2 is a way of dividing between the true fanatic and the curious listener. I wouldn't say that this was the most 'Bluegrass' style CD that I have ever come across, but you will love this. Every track is fantastic.....a must have selection of tracks if you like Dolly Parton. I love Bluegrass, and today's Bluegrass is very unlike the real true Bluegrass. So don't expect this album to give you that wonderful old sound....with incredible Banjo work etc. But!....buy it anyway....it is a wonderful CD with that great Dolly singing voice.

In the 1970s, Charlie Rich was one of the most popular Country music stars, in my opinion he was a much better artist than John Denver even though i do like a few of his songs. Sadly "The Silver Fox" passed away the early 1990s but this greatest hits collection shows what a great singer he was. His three biggest hits make an appearance on this CD, "The Most Beautiful Girl", "A Very Special Love Song" and "Behind Closed Doors". All the songs here are pure country bliss, this is a fine collection that shows the true talent of Charlie Rich and at such a bargain price. Recommened to all country music fans!

This album along with wrecking ball and red dirt girl, is one of emmylous best. Much of emmylous work is far too country for my taste and it is a shame that there are no listening downloads for the tracks on this album because if someone has only got to hear the samples of her more traditional country albums they could easily be put off her work by assuming that is all this artist has to offer, but emmylou is far more than country!! Along with Chris Isaak and Jack Johnson she is one of my favourite artists, her lyrics are deep and evocative and her voice is wild and delicate whilst often deep and strong. I don't know how but Faith Hill just cant produce a bad song. This is top stuff. Like her other albums, this has fantastic song after the other. Its got sad stuff that helps you think when your feeling a bit down and amazing up beat country rock which will have you moving weather you like it or not. The way in which Faith Hill sings country rock is outstanding. This album has some of the best songs ever written, so does her other albums. You cant go wrong with this.

I have read some of the knowledgeable and wordy reviews on this album. I would only add 'SIMPLY THE BEST' from EmmyLou. Every track should be listened to every time you place it on the CD player tray. Simply top quality.

"Why walk when you can fly?" Mary Chapin Carpenter asks on the first track of Stones in the Road.I often can't walk after tapping my toes to country music but I had no problem walking after listening to this cd because the songs here aren't so much toe-tappers as ballads that soothe even when the lyrics speak of heartache and pain.Mary has a great voice - it's soft and clear and tells a lively story.The music on these tracks isn't showy and is just there to accompany her voice.This is the best country cd I have heard in my life - I liked every single song on it and would recommend it to people who don't usually listen to country.
