This interesting album of collaborations includes tracks that are available elsewhere. By no means amongst Emmylou's best albums, Duets nevertheless contains some real gems and provides a pleasant listening experience.

The uptempo track The Price I Pay sees Harris accompanied by the Desert Rose band, and is followed by the old classic with Gram Parsons, the timeless Love Hurts. Roy Orbison provides the male vocal on That Lovin' You Feelin' Again, a mellow middle of the road number, more pop than country, that works surprisingly well.

We Believe In Happy Endings (with Earl Thomas Conley) is a traditional, slow country ballad, whilst Thing About You (with Southern Pacific) is quite catchy with a lilting beat. Star Of Bethlehem, ... Read More:

An album titled "the country collection" is the last thing that you expect to have a radical political message. Perhaps this is an intended irony, I don't know. I actually believe that this is a very apt title for this collection of songs because in my view, people like Kris Kristofferson represent what country music should be about. A music of the people. Compare this to the tripe that is nomally seen on CMTV, the commercialisation of country music that has turned it into another bland, uninspired, politically safe and correct genre where the distinction between it and pop music is constantly being eroded. Instead, Kris sees country music as a medium for dealing with issues that are important and things we would rather forget and ignore.

Recorded in a day in 1959 this album combines traditional songs (Billy the Kid, The Strawberry Man, Utah Carol) with a number of Robbins penned classics. Look at the cover - put it to music the result is what you insert and play on your CD. Fantastic.

Highlights are definitely 'Big Iron' which was penned by Robbins based on the recollections of his grandfather a Texas Ranger. It tells the story of a Ranger''s gunfight with an outlaw named Texas Red (based on Billy the Kid). The town predicts the death of the ranger, but he kills his bounty with the quickness of the "big iron" on his hip. Instead of the showdown happening at high noon, the gunfight begins at 11:20.

"El Paso" which like Big Iron stretches for four minutes a ... Read More:

174.The Essential Jerry Reed by: Jerry Reed

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : The Essential Jerry Reed
Jerry wrote A thing called love, which was a big hit for Johnny Cash and was also covered by Elvis, and he also wrote Guitar man and US male, both big hits for Elvis. His own versions of A thing called love and Guitar man are included here. Other great songs include I love you what can I say and You took all the rambling out of me. So, he could do conventional songs, but what I particularly like are his comedy songs.

My favorite comedy song is The bird (about a creature who could sing like George Jones and Willie Nelson), but this collection also includes Lord Mr Ford (about the problems caused by cars), She got the goldmine I got the shaft (about a divorce settlement) and Another puff (about trying to give up smoking).

I have been a keen follower of Johnny Cash for many years and saw Walk the line at the cinema, I also purchased the D.V.D. I saw this new D.V.D. advertised and I hoped it would be a Christmas present. However, I bought it myself and I think it is much better than "Walk the LIne " I can't wait for GOspel Road to be available in England. I will be first in tne queue.THe Gospel music is a fantastic film and one I will enjoy playing many times.

I love this song. Although it is not at all similar to Faith Hill's previous songs, it is an excallent song and is an exceleent member of the soundtrack for the 2001 film "Pearl Harbor" If you have seen the film then you will know what i mean when i say that the song makes me cry every time i hear it. If you haven't, then you'll still love the enchanting melody and rhythm of this song. I think that this is a song that you can never get bored of and that you can listen to over and over again until the end of time. An excellent song and an excallent buy. Well worth it.

This is a great starting point for the budding rockabilly fan. Charlie Feathers was recommended to me by a friend as "the Robert Johnson of Rockabilly" and I bought this album on the strength of that. I'd never heard of Mac Curtis but the material here absolutely blew me away. If you like rock and roll then you should buy this straight away. There are no weak songs here and all the recordings date from the rockabilly golden era of the mid to late 50s. When you think that Mac Curtis was only 17 when this was recorded it is a phenomenal achievement. This is pure genius and I can't praise it highly enough.
