The majority of the 16 tracks featured on this CD were recorded in the years 1968-77, and 10 were written by Dolly herself, including “9 to 5” which dates from 1980. Inevitably, many of the songs are available on other compilations. For instance, eight also appear on the excellent 3CD box set, “Legends” and the same number likewise do so on the very good 2CD album “The Essential Dolly Parton.” However, the version of “Two Doors Down” on “Greatest Hits” is not the one featured on “Legends.” Moreover, the recording of “I Will Always Love You” on “Greatest Hits” differs from the one found on the other compilations just mentioned. ... This is a great opportunity to gather some of the best songs by Waylon Jennings, one of the great "gurus" of country-western. His voice is warm, his music is cool and he is the singer of the lost cowboys! The only problem with this collection is that... it is a collection, thus lacking the spirit gathered in a full album, but if you don't know him, you should get this! Great tunes such as "You asked me to" or the mythical theme from "Dukes of Hazzard" are gathered in here. Excellent for driving, excellent for relaxing!

I would like to pick up on a point made by a previous reviewer about this album. Firstly I disagree strongly Elvis' period at Sun Records was his best, heck he only made 6 singles with the label. The majority of the tracks on this set are much finer. Furthermore, the reason their are no Sun singles here is because an album of this kind is meant to capture hit's, not early obscurities, not rarity's, not the b-side you liked to a number 1 single, not those album cuts that never got out as singles. Now some acts Greatest Hit's do do that (reason: They didn't have enough hit's). There are plenty of Presley compilations of Sun Material. So, if you want the sun stuff, you can get one of those. This collection is for the true fans of Cash.His early years and I think his best years. The better tracks are with him and the tenneessee two only and the tracks like 'ballad of a teenage queen' are tacky and dated with the male/girl chorus backing(oop adoo's). But the collection is worth the money and a delight to listen too besides these minor dislikes.Luther Perkins chicka boom style is a delight.

This is such a great album and the best place to start for those new to Elvis (is there anyone new to Elvis anymore!) It has a wide selection of tracks that is truly representative of his output and fairly decent packaging.
