One of the best US bands of the late twenties was the Jean Goldkette Orchestra, whose position derived not just from the calibre of its musicians, but from the quality of its arrangements. The man responsible for the latter was the legendary Bill Challis, and in 1986 he oversaw the recreation of some of his most famous scores by Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks. The result is quite magnificent, and should be essential listening for anyone who loves the music of this era.

There are 14 tracks on this CD with 52 minutes of good time light music to give a lift and bring on a sunny frame of mind. The tracks are taken from previous German recordings made in the 1980s, some 20 plus years after Monty Sunshine formed his own band. These recordings demonstrate the drive and spirit of traditional jazz was kept at a peak long after Monty Sunshine's clarinet roles in the Ken Colyer and Chris Barber bands of the 1950s.

For the bulk of the CD the music adopts the popular format of trumpet, trombone and clarinet front line with support from banjo, bass and drums.
