i rate the cd as high as we can but i rate AMAZON with 1/2 star if they r lucky as they sent me a tarnished copy of the cd witch i was not happy about because i payed £7.50 for next day delivery and onley £4.96 for the cd i think that there should be a seal on the all cds witch r new from amazon this 1 that i got was open so that could be a 2nd hand 1 for all i know !!! NOT HAPPY WITH AMAZON

A clichèd album title leads only to uninspired lyrics and repetitive melodies that make you wonder if there's a scratch or a thumb print on the disc. "Even God" is about the only thing that saves this album, well not so much saves it but stops it being twelve tracks of crap, instead it's just eleven. I would say stick to your opera, love, but then that was never great either.

Mary Hopkin was one of those 1960s UK pop singers influenced by folk music, like the early Marianne Faithfull. She made breezy melodic pop music with flair and had huge hits with Those Were The Days, Temma Harbour and Knock Knock Who's There. There is a special wistful quality in her voice that makes these songs still resonate in my mind after all these years. The album also includes pop standards like Que Sera Sera and the folk classic Streets Of London which she interprets gracefully, plus a song in Italian. If you like melodic pop from the 60s and early 70s, you'll love this album. I also recommend it to fans of Marianne Faithfull's early work and of Francoise Hardy.

I left Budgie alone for many years after seeing them described as 'pedestrian.' They may be many things, but after hearing this album, 'pedestrian' is one of the last words I'd think of. Most of their riff-laden music rattles along at a cracking pace and the less-frenetic moments, especially on 'Riding My Nightmare,' reveal their craftsmanship. I had heard 'In The Grip Of A Tyrefitter's Hand' before and this is my favourite track, being intense and dramatic. 'Parents' is another highlight and the acoustic version is a welcome bonus. Throughout the album, however, there's so much going on. It isn't all about heavy-riffing, though they do have more licks than an affectionate dog. Wasn't expecting much from this album based on the reviews here, but to my lasting delight it turned out to be comfortably Catatonias best album. From start to finish it's full of superbly written songs and Cerys Matthews voice sounds better than ever. I particularly like Blues Song, Imaginary Friend, Village Idiots, Arabian Derby, Mother of Misogyny, Is Everyone Here on Drugs, Immediate Circle and Stone by Stone, but the rest are excellent too. Mark Roberts song writing is exceptional. It's more sophisticated than previous albums, more challenging too (ahem, too much for some it seems) and of course the indie style from Way Beyond Blue is long since gone, but after 3 or 4 listens it's obvious how superior this is to their early work. I don't like the idea that the hair doesn't stand up on the back of my neck and arms from the shear glory of the sound of the Welsh here. I would much prefer (as I am sure anyone wanting to hear the famous voice of the Welsh in song)the true way the songs were meant to be. This doesn't even represent the voices I heard on the way to the mines of the miners themselves, now that was a wonderful thing to hear and to witness in the morn. The heart and love of home is whats missing. There are much better to chose from.
