I ordered this album without great expectation after seeing an average score of 4 stars here on amazon, but it has greatly exceeded my expectations. In my opinion it's every bit as good as Way Beyond Blue and International Velvet. As always with Catatonia there's real variety of musical style here, from the ultra pop melodies of Karaoke Queen, Londinium and She's A Millionaire to the more serious and sophisticated Bulimic Beats and Shoot The Messenger and the awesome and powerful Dazed, Beautiful and Bruised, which is possibly Catatonias best piece of music, and would be one of the best songs I've ever heard if it had an extra verse. The primary reason for buying this album is the inclusion of the entire 'Farewell To The Real Magnificent Seven' album, which forms the backbone of CD1. Like the Zombies' superb parting shot Odessey and Oracle, the album was released as the band broke up. The difference, however, is that it was a collection of singles and leftovers. Incredibly, it sounds like a masterwork and has a consistency that their debut album for Deram lacked. The big hits, 'Half As Nice' and 'Hello Susie' are both included and there is more gorgeous pop in the form of 'At Last I've Found Someone To Love' and 'Mr Nonchalant'. well nothing can ever beat the famous Babyon etc. however this album has a certain edge to it. you wouldn't be wasting your money by getting this album.

Don't compare this to anything he's done since because it just work that way. This is David Gary debut, a raw, folky compilation that combines passion and anger as much as it provokes the same in its' listening audience. White Ladder seems a million miles away from this album, and that's good thing. I like them both, but for different reasons. If given the choice, this would be the only Dave Gray album I'd take with me if my house was on fire. Fantastic.

Summer 2001. I had fallen in love with SFA long ago. But this happened to be the first release I had got on release day (have got every one ever since). I was in the middle of my GCSE exams. I got up early and waited outside HMV from around 8.45 to purchase the CD and DVD. I think this album changed my life. I knew this band were special but I didn't realise every song on this album would stir every emotion in me. I will never forget the summer of 2001. I left school. I heard one of the best albums ever. Buy it, Just buy it. Listen to it. It may take a few listens but you will cherish it for life. Believe me. It is one of the best and most adventurous albums EVER. Impossible to define a genre. Thank you. And trust me.
