I was so pleasantly surprised when I heard Adiemus 5 for the first time. It is certainly a fresh experience and although it is different from the other 4 albums, I think the change in direction should be welcomed rather than looked down on because change shows having the courage to develop rather than stick to a winning formula.
The one thing that impressed me the most was the extraordinary soloists Jenkins chose which certainly raised the overall level of the CD to a very high standard. My favorite track is Aria played by cellist Richard Harwood whoose warm tone and deep sensitivity made this track stand out from the others. The jazz tracks were also fantastic with Nigel Hitchcock on saxophone. His solo in Exit Schwanda was really convincing.

Happy days. Seventies British rock as you remember it - no more need be said - plus the hit single. The lyrics are terrible of course, but that's part of the charm.

After a search I couldn't find a negative review for this album, 4 and 5* on here and 8+/10 on wikipedia, which suprised me. I don't especailly like the way different genres are thrown together and although it probably is well produced it sounds a bit of a mess to me. The only tracks I find of any merit are Do or Die (bought the album because of this track), The Turning Tide, Northern Lites and Night Vision, which is about a third of the album. The rest is rather slow and has a fair amount of techno in it, personally I would not recommend this album but judging by the other reviews what do I know?

I stumbled on this CD by accident and struck gold! The purity of Mary Hopkins' voice is extraordinary and the beauty of the songs is enhanced by the translation into Welsh. "Plaisir d'amour" and "Turn, Turn, Turn" are a particular delight. I was especially pleased with a track that wasn't even on the list! - the copy I received had the Billy Edd Wheeler classic "The Coming of the Roads", made famous by July Collins, instead of the listed "Can't Help Falling in Love", which Mary has done beautifully. I can't recommend this CD too highly! Listen to it, buy it and then buy it for your friends.

I bought this album last week and it's still on my stereo. Previously I only had A New Day at Midnight and White Ladder, so I thought it was about time I started delving into Gray's back catalogue. You might expect this album to consist of filler tracks of B side quality - not so. They're all pretty amazing songs, all equally good, and you wouldn't really expect anything less from him. David Gray has a talent for not writing any duff songs, and if there were an album of all his B sides I would quite happily listen to it!

The simplicity of these tracks is what makes the album. They're not overloaded with layers of instruments; most of the time it's just Gray and his guitar. With his heartfelt lyrics and vocal style he manages to pull you into the music like very few ... Read More:
