I'm probably going to enrage a few readers, but what a very poor album this is. And i'm not saying that because i'm any kind of champion of military intervention. The message is wholly laudable, but i found this album to be unbelievably..........lame. Neil's got a whole load of friends to help out on choir duties, and it sounds very amateurish. I almost regret having wasted the time on giving it a spin. (Sorry if i've caused offence to any big fans of this piece of work.)

I had the pleasure of seeing Neil Young live in Kent last weekend. It was great to see he is still on tremendous form after all these years. With a catalogue of about thirty albums it is difficult for newcomers to his work to know where to start their collection, but this compilation covers a lot of his best known music. In fact according to the man himself it was compiled according to sales of the songs, airplay and known download history which gives the track selection credibility. The collection begins with three of Neil Youngs' key songs- two epics which demonstrate the remarkable craftsmanship behind his output (Down by the River and Cowgirl in the Sand) and the shorter, harder edged 'Cinnamon Girl', an instantly catchy number. As my friend says "You've got all these tracks but in a different order". In this case it's only partly right but to a 60's Soul fan and a regular at the Hammersmith Palais on a Monday night this collection brings back some fabulous memories. I think that they are nearly all there. Also memories of Ready Steady Go on a Friday night which had the catchphrase "The weekend starts here".

As a listener of ALL types of quality music from rock to classical.I was looking to buy an ALED JONES cd to chill out a bit as his voice is so amazing.So the obvious choice as I am not familiar with all his songs was to look for a Best of Aled Jones.I would like to thank the two reviewers Susie Veale and Gus Thomas for there positive comments which made me decide to buy the cd.The beautifull music on this QUALITY CD is amazing,anyone who has took the bother to look at this CD should purchase it as you certainly won't be disapointed

Much of this album serves for me as a testimony to the wonderful drumming of Martin Lamble, that feathery touch and those rolls, often playing underneath the music, or just riding the beat. There was something shimmering (and almost held-back) in the music of their live gigs, with the texture lying between the drums and the bass playing. Lamble was an extraordinary player for a 19 year old. This album is also a melancholy listen: I still remember hearing them shortly afterwards with Dave Mattacks's embarassing drumming, and the music suddenly sounded so crude and so unlovely.

Shortly after his first album Young released a rather patchy album that's real claim to fame was the first appearance of Crazy Horse. The voice is more assured than on the opener but that takes away some of the quirkiness that made the opener sound fresher than a rather stodgy offering in which Young seems to be desperately trying to make a niche for himself.

This is a great album with moving protest songs. See the film first to fully dig it. CSNY are not observers of life,they've got balls.

Having already bought both Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes this year and been slightly disappointed I purchased this CD with a little trepidation. The music papers have hyped both the former to a level where they should become instant classics...but the Felice Brothers seemed to slip under the radar getting goo reviews but no more. But hey! since first sticking the CD in the car stereo I haven't been able to take it out. OK on first listen I did think there was a Dylan fixation...but now I don't even detect it...it is the sound of the Felice Bros.. 'Helen Fry' is a great track and does sound very much like an early Green on Red track with loads of organ in the background and 'Scarecrow' is a dark tale that you really need to listen to. Only ... I've been a Cohen fan as far back as I can remember. I had a feeling I wouldn't be disappointed by this album, since Cohen's live backup singers are legendary, and I was right. These are without a doubt the most beautiful and emotional versions of the songs ever recorded, and I find it impossible to listen to the album as mere background music; as soon as the music starts playing, I can't help but close my eyes and just let the music envelop me completely. The songs "Bird on a Wire" and "Sisters of Mercy" are worthy of special mention. The tempo is lower, the saxophone sexier and the vocals deeper and more intense than ever before, and the result defies description.
