This could be Pentangle's best album - 'Basket of Light' is the only other contender, but this one has much more material on it.

The first disc was recorded live in 1968 and the second is from the studio. The live show is great, with a mix of folk standards, originals and instrumentals showing great dexterity and skill from all involved. Bert Jansch and John Renbourn's version of Mingus' 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat' is a standout instrumental tune - very relaxing and melodic. The studio set is a strong album in its own right, with highlights (for me) being the guitar duel of 'In Time', the morality tale 'Sovay' and the grooving 'I've Got A Feeling', which borrows the chord sequence from Miles Davis' 'All Blues'.

Why does Amazon attribute this to Bert Jansch? If ever you were looking for an inspired collaboration of two equal partners, then surely this delivers the goods. More than forty years on and it still gives me shivers. I have several versions of 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat' and this version stands with the best of them. 'Stepping Stones' continues to make me wince with delight, though I must have heard it a hundred times. And 'After the Dance' always leaves me wanting more. John Renbourn came up, less than two years later, with 'Sir John Alot Of Merrie Englandes Musyk Thyng And Ye Grene Knyghte', surely one of the most cringemaking titles ever contrived but also a seminal and utterly brilliant album which I still rank amongst my top ten of all time. ... This compilation could be the right investment for the buyer who wants only one CD by this band. Featuring their two best known tracks "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit" the CD is likely to satisfy the casual buyer.

Containing songs from all their 6 studio albums + a couple of live recordings it gives a pretty good general view of the band's recording career.

It will always be a matter of taste and a subject to discussion which specific tracks ought represent the various albums on a compilation CD.

I think most tracks are well chosen even though I miss great tracks like "Come Up the Years" (Takes Off), "My Best Friend" (Surrealistic Pillow), "Martha" (Baxter's) and "The Good Shepherd" (Volunteers)

I loved Jose's last album, Veneer, but this just stuns beyond reason.
It might be a little difficult to believe that there was much more that could be done with his sound, given the amazing quality of the first album, but it has been done. This album has the same sort of sound as Veneer did and yet it is almost impossibleto get the two confused.
In Our Nature feels a little more aggressive in style than Veneer, and feels more passionate.
It is a truly mesmerising album and, in my opinion is the best of 2007, despitemany other fantastic albums (including Marion Raven's Set Me Free).

Black Sunday made Cypress Hill's connection to rock & roll more explicit, with its heavy metal-like artwork and noisier, more dissonant samples (including, naturally, stoner icons Black Sabbath). It's a slightly darker affair than its groundbreaking predecessor, with the threats of violence more urgent and the pot obsession played to the hilt (after all, it was a crucial part of their widespread appeal). Apart from those subtle distinctions, the sound of Black Sunday is pretty much the same as Cypress Hill, refining the group's innovations into an accessible bid for crossover success. In fact, it's a little startling how often Black Sunday recycles musical ideas and even lyrical catch phrases from the endlessly inventive debut. And the rock-derived, verse ... Read More:

An album that finally puts bagpipes on the map - and not just the Scottish map. This band has artfully crafted the bagpipes with incredibly powerful percussion sounds, pounding base guitar, haunting vocals and incredibly rhythmic keyboard backing. An unusual and instantly engaging compilation of traditional Scottish tunes mixed with more modern pop classics all given a distinctive Celtic twist. Never a fan of traditional pipe band music I have seen pipe music in a whole new light and can finally turn up the volume on this new and exciting evolution of an instrument that dates back at least 2,000 years. This album will rekindle everyones "Celtic heart" and leave you breathless as you get swept along on the sheer energy and enthusiasm of the music. Can't wait ... Read More:

This is a masterpiece, this is how records should be done, crisp sounds, a great and passionate voice, an intensity that is difficult to see in other records. I think this is his best performance ever, too bad he was not there to listen to it. His version of "Further up on the road" is just unbelievable, I think Springsteen might have cried when he listened to it. Similarly "four strong winds" is really good and better, for example, than Neil Young's version on Comes a Time.
A record that will make you cry, with passion and soul. I don't give 5 stars easily but this is just too good.

I came across Lucinda through A Q magazine list of the best live albums of all time. I bought her live CD and have been gradually buying the studio material. This album is just terrific. I can't listen to 'normal country' music but this is a clearly a crossover album that steps over the divide between rock and country. So shades of Neal Young, some Ryan Adams...If you like to seek out different artists.... try this..
