I bought this album on the strength of the song You've Got A Friend, having thought there must be more to his brilliance than just this one song. I wasn't wrong. When I heard this album, there were many songs I already knew...I just did not know, for some reason, that James Taylor was behind them.

Overall, this has been a brilliant re-introduction and introduction to the best of James Taylor's music. It's very easy to listen to and to relax to, despite being moving and having lyrics which make you think.

My personal favourite tracks are: Fire And Rain, You've Got A Friend, Handyman, Shower The People, although most people know Carolina In My Mind and Something In The Way She Moves. There are no bad, weak or unworthy ... Read More:

It's taken me a while to fully appreciate this album. At first I found it slightly dull melodically, and lacking a ballad with the same emotive power of her much-loved 'O gente da minha terra'. But it's grown on me, and those songs that have the sad beauty typical of fado music have thoroughly eclipsed the few that don't do it for me. Ten successful tracks out of 14 is pretty good value for money, I reckon.

Technically, it's perfect: Mariza's voice is as pitch-perfect, controlled and expressive as ever, the musicianship and production are superb, and it's more diverse than her previous albums, with some jazzy, laidback trumpet and piano, occasional flamenco influence, and a Cape Verde-style song (featuring Tito Paris, who sounds ... First off, I would like to say that I love Bruce Parry and his causes and I am pleased at least the CD cost is going to good use.
However, I do like the tribal chanting - but HATE the accompanying soundtrack to it - which is techno/trancey. I was expecting it to be more in tune with the tribal chanting. Not my cup of tea, sorry Bruce - but still love you. Not to worry, it is my dad's birthday at end of November so I shall pan it off to him as a present.

Listening to the Mammas and the Papas was a real nostalgia trip but how I hate CD's with tracks that fade out before they finish, it totally spoils the experience. I have a vision of a man behind the stage at a live performance turning a big volume control down leaving the group playing and singing silently to a bemused audience. Had the tracks all been full length I would have given this CD 4 stars.

It would be churlish to criticize "Greatest Hits", as it's the classic compilation, and the best possible 40-odd minute introduction to the duo's work. On the face of it, everything's here. Plus this is an of-the-time release, one you or your parents probably owned way-back-when, and even the cover can bring on pangs of nostalgia. It's still a superb listen and, even if like me you own all the original albums, it's something that is always first to get in the player. Sometimes I don't even stop it before "Cecilia" -- and not just because I'm not quick enough having been lulled into a pleasurable stupor by the "Bookends" coda.

BUT this is what you must know. A number of these songs are NOT the original studio versions, they're live recordings. ... Read More:

`Carried to Dust` is Calexico's most mature work to date, arguably the best synthesis of their frontier atmospherics and Latin-inflected country songwriting. The follow-up to 2005's much-dismissed `Garden Ruin', `Carried to Dust' makes the `South-Western noir' tag stick better than any other Calexico album. It's a record of great dusky beauty, varied and unusual musicianship and haunting songs. More understated than their aknowledged masterpiece `Feast of Wire`, `Carried to Dust' may pass that benchmark in time with its flickering, insidious quality. Cinematic but subtle, whispery yet substantial, there are fewer straight-out brooding Enio Morricone instrumentals, only one blatant Tex-Mex jam. The album is largely song-orientated but, unlike Garden Ruin, deftly ... Read More:

I became a fan of Uncle Earl after seeing them in concert and bought their CDs. This group was recommended to me and I bought the CD. It is old timey accoustic music played to a very high standard by a group of 3 who appear to enjoy what they are doing. The music has a feel of authenticity. For me, they will not replace Uncle Earl but they are deserving a place next to them in my collection. If you like Uncle Earl, you will probably enjoy this as well. Enjoyable.

Classic and timeless stuff, a collection of all the good old songs. The technical quality is higher than you would expect in view of the vintage of some of these recordings, so the transfer has ben really well done. For 6 quid, you can't go wrong.

If you do not want the hair on your neck to stand up and goosebumps to appear on your arm then don't buy it, because this CD is truly brilliant. It's different to his others but that is the greatness of this guy. Some of the tunes relate to his experiences in the UK and he even plays with us in Cantelowes when you hear the start of the sound track for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Hey this guy has humour as well as brilliance.
With the world falling about our ears and all the talk of greed and corruption just buy this and take your mind to some calm and peaceful place. This can really contribute to your sanity. I'm off to chill out with this CD. I have all his CDs but this is really set apart, perhaps it stands out becasue it is less traditional, please ... Read More:
