Following on from the album with John Allred "Hits By Brits", the Harry Allen Quartet again join up with him for this one and it's a real swinging, stompin' affair. Add to this the inclusion of master tenorist Scott Hamilton on three numbers and it justs cooks. John Allred's trombone complements the musical interplay between Harry Allen on tenor and Joe Cohn on guitar beautifully. Joel Forbes on bass and Chuck Riggs on drums drive the group perfectly. This is another superb album by one of today's top tenor players and should be in the collection of all who love swinging jazz and musical excellence.

According to the boxsets publicity Nat King Cole was the most popular male vocalist of his generation and along with Bing Crosby, frank sinatra and Elvis Presley one of the 4 best male singers ever and apparently he had more hits and sold more records than any singer in the immediate post war era he was along with Pat Boone And Perry Como one of the biggest stars of the 1950's appering in film T.V Radio and a top concert draw accross the globe. This, their other Starr reissue, is pretty well in the same league. In "Jazz Singer" arranger Van Alexander added a wailing organ to the brass and, less happily, a male vocal quartet, which slightly dates the half dozen tracks on which they appear. Nonetheless this is a wonderful collection of standards sung with Starr's hallmark driving delivery and powerful vocals.
