Despite these recordings being around forty years old, they still represent the ultimate in interpretations from one of the twentieth centuries prime Brucknerians - Eugen Jochum. These choral works represent a very different Bruckner we usually associate with from listening to his symphonies. This is a much more listener-friendly, accsessible side to the composer. Much more akin to Beethoven than to his later, somewhat austere symphonic style. And all beautifully recorded and performed. Shame that the 2nd Mass is split up onto two discs. But these are worth getting and a great introduction to the composer...
