This is probably the darkest album Dary Hall & John Oates ever made. And possibly also one of the most difficult to get into. That's not to say that it isn't a good album - there are some gems on here. The opening track "Don't Change" is a lush soulful slow rocker very typical of H&O, but even for an album opener it has a dark edge that contrasts dramatically with the next track "Why Do Lovers..." This is the lightest and most 'pop' song on the album and an obvious single; H&O always at their strongest with this type of Philly soul sound. This is a generally upbeat album that maintains Highway 101's tradition of good-time rocking music, although there are more ballads here than were present on their early albums. The sound is also a little different, but still brilliant in its own way.

Chrislynn Lee, Highway 101's singer at the time this album was recorded (and still their singer as I write this) is a wonderful singer in her own right. One of the tracks here, There goes my love (a cover of a Buck Owens song) was also recorded by the band in Paulette's time and appeared on one of their early albums, so anybody wishing to compare these two classy ladies has a basis of comparison. Apart from that song and one other, all the songs here were written or co-written by members of ... Read More:
