This 1967 album features some of Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66's finest songs. To anyone not familiar with the group, they play a jazzy bossa nova that's fresh, summery but capable of a poigniance which never veers into downright melancholy. This album is probably the finest from Sergio Mendes' early career, with classic songs like "Night And Day" with its stirring vocal harmoies, and "For Me" with soaring vocals and irrepressible energy. "Constant Rain (Chove Chuva)" meanwhile makes the idea of rain feel utterly refreshing, joyfully invigourating.

Other songs by Sergio Mendes might be better known - especially their covers of Beatles and Carpenters songs - but this album is a consistent delight, and an ideal introduction to the ... Read More:

3.Big Band Bossa Nova by: Stan Getz

Listening to Stan Getz and his saxophone is usually a real pleasure, but this album is disappointing.

"Big Band Bossa Nova" lacks spirit and vitality I associate with bossa nova. While Stan Getz's saxophone is unmistakable and the other musicians featured are highly skilled, the arrangements seem uninspired.

Anybody looking for lively and exciting Latin rhythms should give this album a miss and instead consider Stan Getz "Jazz Samba", "Jazz Samba Encore" or "Stan Getz plays Jobim". Or how about Celia Cruz?

This is voted one of the very best jazz albums in 2003 in many magazines and shops. And it definitely deserved that! The music by Jobim was delicately transformed with M2S's arrangements for vocal, cello and piano. While the cello and voice is absolutely fabulous already, having worked with Jobim before, the pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto just added another dimension to the album! The piano part is filled with Frech-music style elements, making the whole album very atmosphere, very "chill", and very very beautiful!

You won't be disappointed at all!
