The three CDs are filled with superb remastered and totally authentic recordings that span the incredible career of Frankie Valli and The four Seasons. The quality is superb, the versions presented here are the originals, in stereo or mono as is appropriate. The DVD is wonderful - classic live performances of the group at its peak. Of especial note are the 1971 TOTP recordings of Let's Hang On and I've Got You Under My Skin, both live, very well recorded and very true to the 1971 stage sound. Frankie's voice is at its best and this has to be heard loud to get the full dramatic impact. Thoroughly recommended.

At least the terrible Wonder Who track isn't on but this "Definitive"-one of many-includes most of the key songs. The classic period was the 1962-66 years when so many of the B sides were as good as the A sides. The reason why Capitol decided to invest in the Beatles was no doubt because I want to hold your hand sounded more like a 4 Seasons record than the previous ones they'd rejected but the Vee Jay label was able to milk both with the album The 4 Seasons versus the Beatles.

The Four Seasons, the sound of 1960s New York! Four American boys, mainly of Italian extraction. Even now, the power and multi-layered harmonies will just blow you away. A kind of east coast Beach Boys if you like, but with a slightly harder edge. In fact they did eventually (1984) record an album with the Beach Boys. Party songs like "Let's Hang On" and "December" only really tell you a fraction of what you need to know about this band. This compilation gives a fuller - but still not complete - picture. Oddly, several of the Four Season's songs are more familiar to UK audiences being done by other artists. This title has some good tracks including 3 new remixes...Beggin re-edit hit #1 on the British Dance charts a few weeks ago..So maybe the above 2 posters don't know much about Frankie Valli...I don't think it is in good taste for the previous reviewer to say that Frankie Valli is dead when he is very much alive and touring 12 months a year...Selling out most shows...even in 10,000 seat venues...An album of new material is due from Universal this year and Jersey Boys is still sold out every performance in NY and LA...

If you like the original recordings don`t buy this cd. Track 6 Love really hurts without you - Billy Ocean, is the only original recording. All the other tracks are re-recordings by the original artist or one or more members of the original group. Tracks 3 (Sister Sledge) and 7 Tavares are both live tracks.
