This "collection" album was lauched to coinside with Curtis recent UK tour and its only avaliable in the UK! Stigers has found his true voice and has developed over the last ten years into an accomplished jazz singer. Although its all too easy, all the tunes are pleasent enough without really going the full distance. His live shows are far more warming to listen too and you cant help feel let down by the studio recording. Tracks such as Lullaby on the hudson and columbus avenue are warm songs that were written by curtis about his wife and daughter and stand out head and shoulders above the other reworked tunes. The day after I saw Curtis Stigers last summer, I went straight out and bought this CD. His live performance had been warm, witty and perfect for cuddling up to the one you love, the album is no different. An ecletic collection of covers, all given their own twist, all saying something new (especially in the case of "Everybody Cryin' Mercy), together with a smattering of his own, beautifully romantic work. Had I seen Tom Waites "In Between Love" on the cd track listing before I heard him sing it live I would have had second thoughts - no one should cover this, it's sacrilegious! - but I heard Stigers sing it live first and found myself, feeling guilty, but loving it. I love Aimee Mann. Ever since I first heard her music through Magnolia, I have searched and faithfully follow her music ever since. I also had the opportunity to listen to her live 3 years ago and going to go again this Thursday (hoorah!). If you are a fan of Aimee's music then I am sure you won't be disappointed. Her stuff - just like the others, grows on you more and more. Everytime you listen, there's always one track which stands out and after a while another. You just don't get bored of them. Her music are haunting and beautiful with deep (and albeit slightly twisted)lyrics. There's more usage of definite beat and drum motion. The last track in the album was upbeat and jazzy and in fact a duet. It is quite different. ... Read More:
