Superb compilation with the obligatory chart successes of the 50s and 60s, some 70s tracks from her acclaimed "Memphis" and Warm and Tender" albums; a couple of fine duets with Michael McDonald and Dusty Springfield; a tribute to Queen; some excellent tracks from 2002, and most especially 4 new songs. Petula's voice is better, stronger and more soulful than ever on these fantastic, largely self-penned, rather reflective songs, recorded in London, New York, and the fantastic new studios of Arthanor Productions in Geneva in 2008 and with production by John Williams and David Hadzis. Difficult to say which I like best; each one is special in its own way.

The album has made the UK album charts, which, if I'm not mistaken, means that ... Read More:

NOT2CD221 Sarah Vaughan - The Great American Songbook
This 2 CD set has 47 tracks from the period 1947 to 1955 and certainly lives up to the overall series title. Yes, there are many of the great composers featured here. There are also many gems from the song book of Sarah Vaughan and the opportunity to hear less well known songs too such as the haunting "Trouble is a Man" by Alec Wilder whose centenary it is this year. Visit www.alecwildercentennial.com for more information. There is also an excellent version of Mr Wonderful the song most associated with Peggy Lee. I'm sure you will enjoy many many more.
Bringing together such a collection is always difficult but with over 146 minutes and songs by the Gershwin's, Duke Ellington; ... Read More:

Paint Your Wagon has a beautiful score and is very well sung. Clint Eastwood's versions of I Talk to the Trees and I Still See Elisa have been thankfully erased from my mind by the original broadway members' moving and tuneful versions. That alone is worth buying it for.

Joe Sample is an icon in the Jazz medium, both as composer and keyboard player. If you are not familiar with his style, this is a wonderful introduction. For all those who are, an unmissable disc. Fabulous arrangements;hauntingly misty rich harmonies, the clarity of Joe's inimitable improvisations. Lalah Hathaway's smooth vocal lines blend perfectly. Street life and One day I'll fly away are liquid gold.
