The three CDs are filled with superb remastered and totally authentic recordings that span the incredible career of Frankie Valli and The four Seasons. The quality is superb, the versions presented here are the originals, in stereo or mono as is appropriate. The DVD is wonderful - classic live performances of the group at its peak. Of especial note are the 1971 TOTP recordings of Let's Hang On and I've Got You Under My Skin, both live, very well recorded and very true to the 1971 stage sound. Frankie's voice is at its best and this has to be heard loud to get the full dramatic impact. Thoroughly recommended.

Next to the 1959 Decca D'Oyly Carte recording of this early hit G&S operetta, this Mackerras version really represents the cream of the crop for all the currently available recordings of Pinafore. Although this recording doesn't come with the dialogue, it offers a lot, and it does so in spades. Mackerras adopts bright, breezy tempi throughout, and his orchestra responds with peerless playing. There is precision and life in every bar, and you feel as if you can hear the felicitous nuances in Sullivan's orchestrations. It helps that Mackerras is blessed by a superb cast of soloists. After Nobody's Cool, Full Isaac and the Agnew Funeral EP the expectations of Lotion have been high however they have proved they can deliver. The only downside is that it could be described as lightly overproduced in comparison with other work and hence has lost some of that essential grit, but nevertheless you'll enjoy it.
