I already own a copy of this set, and have ordered a second copy as a gift. The sound quality is surprisingly good for material from such old originals. Those responsible for re-mastering and editing have done an excellent job. It is most interesting to hear how some tunes that are now standards were played ninety years ago. I am struck by the steady tempo -- these players don't need to rush. The booklet that is included with the CDs is interesting and informative. These discs are both entertaining and of historical value. They are the best kind of historic recording -- good music to listen to and a sample of playing styles from the early years of jazz. A winner!

I always wondered really how long it would be before High School Pop was taken seriously as a legitimate collecting area.True some of it was like a continuation of 40s Tin Pan Alley eg Frankie Avalon but true high school pop was actually invented by Buddy Holly via Paul Anka and you began to notice many recurring strands-the rocking strings,tremeloe guitars,the famous chord sequence of C A F G beaten into submission (and adopted from Rodgers & Hart in the first place-check out Blue Moon) and girl groups in the background.And Jerry Fuller's version of Tennessee Waltz was as good as it got.
