Whether they were pressured into playing material that was not to their liking by mentor Guy Stevens or not I couldn't say, but on this album more than any other there is a "going through the motions" feel, that displays a mood of doing a job rather than creating something. It's a well known fact that Guy took them under his wing with a view to using them to fulfill his own musical dreams (Dylan, Jerry Lee Lewis etc). Only half of the songs on this album were written by the band, and if sleeve notes on their Island cd's are to be believed, many of their self penned compositions were under GS's instruction.
