A gorgeous combination of flawless Torme vocals, 1959 vintage, and some of Billy May's wittiest, lushest and most imaginative orchestrations. This album is new to me and I can't think why it is not better known. The swingers are great but the ballads are outstanding. I hope there are further Torme/May collaborations to be discovered. Played it for a Harry Connick fan who was amazed at how like Mel he sounds.
The reissue packaging is a nightmare though: it's a cardboard sleeve with a separate strip of highly-losable paper containing all the information about what's on the album. You have to keep this bit of paper because all the tracks are in a different order to that stated on the actual sleeve! Terrible idea.
