- THIS IS NOT FADO, IT IS POP MUSIC!!
Sorry but this isn't "Fado". It is Pop music nad not the best one, for the effect!!
If you want to hear REAL "Fado" and a fantastic singer listen to Ana Moura or Mafalda Arnauth or Cristina Branco. These are true "fado" singers, full of Pathos and emotion!!

There is no denying that the music is beautiful. However, be aware that this CD and Fado Curvo are copy controlled. That means you cannot download them onto your I-pod. I was extremely disappointed to find this out only after I had purchased them from this site.

- Mariza is amazing! ATrue Fadista
A true Fadista. Mariza is Fado. You just have to listen to one of her songs in any album and you will become a fan right away. Her voice has no languages nor barriers. It is Transparente. In Mariza's Fado all you can hear is someone singing with her whole heart and souls. You don't hear languages. I speak a few different languages but I am originally spanish. I listened once to one of her songs and became a fan right away. I have never felt someone sing like her because Mariza's voice you can't only hear it, you feel it! In her voice you see a picture, that soon becomes a story of a piece of history that she sings. On first hearing this album, I suspect that the Fado enthusiast, and Mariza fan will be slightly disappointed. And yet, the more you listen to it, the more you realise it's greatness.

It's undeniable that this album strays from traditional fado, rather a lot. And yet, this blending of Portuguese saudades and Brazilian smoothness brings a new side of this amazing fadista to light. Indeed, it is perhaps in the lyrics of this album that the true brilliance lies. If you are able to allow yourself to read the translations (for non-Portuguese speakers), you will discover an honest, gentle and always deep singing of the inner-workings of a Portuguese soul.

Nothing quite prepares you for seeing Mariza live. The moment her tall, beautiful gothic figure takes to the stage, the audiance are changed. People look to their partners in disbelief between songs, trying to comprehend the voice they have just heard. Even with her microphone switched off (the band go "unplugged" for an encore) her voice fills the auditorium. When she sings Billy Holiday's signature tune "Summertime" the man sitting next to me looks at his wife and says (in reference to Blackadder) something that sounds suspicously like "Clucking Bell".
