That this CD doesn't have 'You Gotta Move' on it should not put you off buying this if it's your first taste of the great Fred McDowell. If you already own some of his work you need this too. Recorded in his front room in the early sixties, with dogs barking in the back ground, children playing this is deeply personal and spirtual. The songs are well worn Delta classics, Fred's playing is hypnotic and his singing fluid. I cannot describe how great the music on this disc is.

Teriffic collection!Im not a c&w fan but like Irish Trad.and similar stuff.This box set covers a great range of influences that show how we arrived at what is "american music" today.I never tire listening to it after 8 months and i think all lovers of good music will love this! Get it!!

Some are awful, some are just listenable, and there a couple real winners. But the production quality is very high, of course, and everyone can play their instruments very well. On the other hand, much of this is slick rubbish that Decca cranked out in a hit-or-miss fashion to try and score a bit hit. These are the ones that didn't make it. And for good reason, by and large. They're are uninspired, unoriginal and forgettable. This CD is really only for real die hard fans of the genre.

It is great there are still bands in the 21st Century upholding the traditions of 1920s Jazz. This album is simply excellent.
