A two disc set offering a really good cross section of UK Subs at their best. The price is excellent & all told you get 46 tracks of uncompromising punk. Starts off on disc one with "CID" & doesn't let up. Some classic tracks on this bargain priced album,worth the price even for the one disc but two discs of UK Subs at this price is a steal ! The whole package is cracking.

This is a mostly live album recorded on tour in 2004. The last five tracks are the "The Revolution's Here", originally released in 2000 on vinyl only. That is the best reason to buy this. The live stuff sounds great, but the overdubs are obvious! Sure, the liner notes admit to this, but this is the last thing one would expect from the low-budget experts that are the UK Subs! The guitars and drums seem to be the most affected. Oh, well, I guess one could view it as a Frank Zappa-type hybrid from the '70's, which mixed studio and live material on the same tracks, but I like my punk straight-no chaser! Still worth getting, especially if you're a Subs nut like me!

"Brand New Age" was the Subs' second album and is pretty similar to its predecessor "Another Kind Of Blues" which is definitely a good thing. However, lyrically it's much more barbed - songs like "Organised Crime", "Public Servant" and the title track, which is about the government monitoring its citizens via CCTV ("First they watched you in the cradle/And now they're gonna watch you die") are ferocious tirades against authority. Stand-out track though is still "Warhead", a slow-burning song about the ever-present threat of nuclear war which sounds all the more scarily relevant now twenty years on. Also included on the re-issue is their frenetic re-working of Santana's "She's Not There" which is well worth hearing. A good album.

So we reach the letter T on the UK Subs journey through the alphabet...this time Mr Harper hooks up with the equally 'ridiculously' energetic Nicky Garratt and UK Subs Mark 2 bassman Alvin Gibbs for a blast through a fine selection of time-honoured Subs classics. From CID onwards this CD thrashes along at a great pace...if you come over all nostalgic and feel a tear trickling from your glass eye, no need to worry...the UK Subs have no time for rose tinted glasses, they're still gigging and still full of as much energy as is contained on this release. Go find 'em...
