I had read an interview with Gallen, and was very interested to hear this cd. I was expecting masterful playing, but this is technical playing like nothing else! A very modern/experimental selection, straight away shows Gallens technical confidence. The whole cd is breathtaking, especially in his dynamics. One minute he sounds as though he is far away, in the distance, the next he is firing notes so upfront it's almost scary! 2 main highlights are Brouwer, and Tarrega. The Brouwer pieces involve alot of theme juggling, dynamic movement, and varying tempos, which Gallen embraces fully. as the old saying goes{i may not know art but i know what i like}. i may not be an expert on spanish classical guitar music but this cd is excellent. track 5 disc 1 is 10 minutes of heaven.you may recognise it as the music from the film el cid.there are 1 or 2 tracks that dont quite hit the mark but mostly this is a fantastic compilation album and will satisfy most peoples needs. just relax with a bottle of rioja,turn off your phone and dont answer the door bell. you will be transported back to that little secret tapas bar that only you and your loved one know about. the sevilla feria 05 is where it takes us.

Although Rodrigo is probably the father of classical Spanish Guitar music this whole compilation brings forth lesser known names and compositions. To listen to with a bottle of wine and close ones eyes one can envisage those beautiful Spanish villages amid wondeful scenery. Dance of the Miller and the orchestral version of Dance Espanola No. 5 are a special delight. A must for lovers of this kind of music.
