I stumbled across this record of Wagner transcriptions for harmonium while searching for Karg-Elerts 'Salve Regina' that I had heard recently on the radio. I had always thought of harmoniums as wheezy little squeezeboxes, and was intrigued by the steady, slightly ethereal tones of the Harmonium d'art. I bought this blind, expecting a bit of a kitsch novelty,(like Rolf Harris doing stairway to heaven on the wobbleboard) and was pleasantly surprised by how sincere and serious a venture it obviously was for both composer and performer. A period curio perhaps, and maybe not one for dyed in the wool Wagnerians, but an interesting and different angle on some familiar music.
