Make sure you listen before you buy, and be sure these are the kind of performances you want. Because although other reviews rave about this, I remain unconvinced.

Mind you, these comments only apply to the first of the two CDs. I haven't heard the second and can't comment.

But I was taken aback by the interpretations on CD1, some of which sound positively Victorian - slushy, wobbly and tonally wooden. And there are some vocal infelicities that simply should not have got past the editing process.

Take the Mozart: even in the first two bars - just the instrumental intro - there's a slushy rit (the first of many!), a sudden accelerando and another rit just before the choral entry. Where does Mozart ask for ... Read More:

This 2 CD set of Choral works is very broad ranging, and would suit a concert-goer's taste well. It is as good as actually being there! The scope of work performed is from early Baroque to modern [ Benjamin Britain], and with some works accompanied by Organ, chamber and orchestral backing, as was intended. No disappointment, here-just a perfect evening's entertainment in the full sense. Performed to the highest perfection. Highly recommended both with regard to the performers, and the quality of the recording. [It rather reminds me of New College, Oxford, where I used to attend the Autumn Term 'Choral Season']. The recording times are CD1-75.03mins. and CD2-77.04 respectively, very good value indeed- for perfection!

The singing in the Barber Adagio is exquisite. The phrasing is elegant, the pace is right, and the sopranos nail some stratospheric notes near the end that send chills down my back.

I first heard the Adagio decades ago on a 78 RPM disc with the Philadelphia orchestra conducted by Ormandy, and I have heard many versions since. But the Adagio acquires an entirely new dimension of expression and of challenge to musicianship when sung unaccompanied by a choir.

I was born and live in the USA, as Barber did, but I tip my hat to the British for the finest and most moving version of this piece I have ever heard.

My knowledge of classical music is not so advanced, but it is a breed of music you must learn to appreciate if you get what I mean. I am to keen to expand my knowledge of classical music, so buying this album is a great starting point. Classical music is a breed of music which existed long time ago and is really old fashioned, but a real pleasure to listen to. It is very much instrumental orientated. You can hear the piano, violin or the flute with their distinctive sounds in the background.

The Most Relaxing Classical Music in the World is an excellent album featuring and honouring the talents of all the major acts to embrace their names in classical music combined in four CDs. Remember The Four Seasons, Fantasia, Concerto For Two Mandolins and other ... Read More:

There are numerous great value compilation sets of classical music claiming to have the power of relaxation - Classic FM alone have a few variants such as `Relax', `Relax More' and `Time to Relax' - and all appear to offer the ultimate relaxing experience so it's a difficult task to decide which to buy.

There is no `best' compilation though for it's a matter of personal choice, but there are several advantages of choosing the Classic FM range of relaxation therapy. There is not too much repetition between each set (if there was, we wouldn't buy their next relax release would we?), the recordings are invariably good (and recent) ones, and most importantly they usually offer a selection of some of today's big names in the Classical world.

Search : Music for Weddings

Weddings often bring out the best in music, and this `Classic FM Music For Weddings' certainly reflects the type of music being played at today's happy occasions.

It has though been superseded by the 2CD Classic FM `Weddings 2008' which not only gives a little more choice but more importantly divides the music into two categories - religious weddings and church weddings, for it is easy to forget that sacred music (loosely termed as that which was written for the church or a religious occasion) is not allowed to be played at civic weddings while the registrar is present.

With that in mind, this is still a good album of lovely music, and although suitable for all church services, you should check with the registrar before playing it at civil ... Read More:

Ever since i was introduced to Classical music by my father at home and in music class at school i have appreciated the classics ability to soothe the mind, to be able to sink back and allow the mind to be massaged through the ears so as to be able to forget much of what troubles us, and Radio FM have again provided me with a beautiful continuity of music on these CDs to do just that. Gone is the need to turn the LP and for most of us we have the ability to place all the CDs in to a system and listen for hours on end, and with this set gone also is the need to skip tracks, each seems to flow naturally from the previous and merge nicely into the next, while the composers can take pride in their music, Radio FM can be proud of their management of all these pieces together.
