Weddings often bring out the best in music, and this `Classic FM Music For Weddings' certainly reflects the type of music being played at today's happy occasions. It has though been superseded by the 2CD Classic FM `Weddings 2008' which not only gives a little more choice but more importantly divides the music into two categories - religious weddings and church weddings, for it is easy to forget that sacred music (loosely termed as that which was written for the church or a religious occasion) is not allowed to be played at civic weddings while the registrar is present. A lovely 2CD Classic FM compilation of relaxing music - for mothers as much as their babies - consisting of an interesting assortment of baroque, classical, romantic and modern music with the underlying theme of aiming to relax the listener. Some pieces are chosen partly for their title as well as the soothing effect they have, these include the 'Lullaby' by Brahms and 'The Swan' from 'Carnival of the Animals' by Saint-Saens. The more contemporary offerings are by popular composers such as Patrick Hawes. These are good recordings, as expected by Classic FM, many of which will be comfortably familiar to most of the radio shows listeners. Comfortably safe by Classic FM maybe, but comfortably relaxing too.

The world of Opera is desperately looking for new superstars. Angela Gheorghiu is a good soprano and in this CD gives fair performances of famous and not-so-famous arias. Still although she is very good technically she does not seem to be able to give that extra something that distinguishes a good soprano from an exeptional one. I can hear her sing but I can't feel her sing. Caballe, Callas, Hendricks, Sutherland are in a different league. Gheorghiu is a beautiful woman but this is Opera not Spice Girls. We have to wait more for another superstar. Full credits to EMI for the exellent booklet.

I initially bought this cd set to do a project on T.V. music. But it has become a favouite of mine. Some of the finest pieces of music are contained on these 2 discs. The Guiness advert is a personal favourite as is the Karl Orff tune. The music is so powerful, so inspirational. If you enjoy this sort of music you'll love these cd's, and even if you dont there are still tunes that you can relate to because of their prestige in world music.
