Japanese import `From the Heart' released in 2007 is presumably intended as a `Best of' Katherine Jenkins, all the songs being previously available. Of the fourteen tracks, there are none from her debut album `Premiere' on this collection (Lascia ch'io pianga and The Lord is my Shepherd would have been worthy inclusions), while there are four tracks each from `Second Nature' and `Living a Dream, and `Serenade' wins the remaining six tracks. Yes, I would recommend this as a good selection of Katherine Jenkins music, but I don't think it's the `Best Of' due to the omission of, for example, Nessun dorma, Amazing Grace and We'll Meet Again (honestly, how could you leave that one out?). This is another pretty average collection of War Movie themes.They are not original sound tracks but are themes performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Before purchasing I tried various websites to try and establish if they were original sound tracks but all the supporting information failed to mention this! I took the plunge and paid Play.com £4.99. As a collection it's probably one of the better CD compilations of these themes. However if you are used to hearing the originals in all their glory, a few of these will make you cringe. One day these music companies will get their heads together and we will get a collection of the Original film sound tracks ... here's hoping!

These pieces are done on an electronic keyboard or organ but are still good arrangements although some songs are done better than others as they can be a little drab. I think it's very interesting to hear different versions of a song and how it is interpreted. This CD is probably more of a "background music" CD but is still reasonably good and reasonably priced. Don't be put off by it not being the original versions of the songs!

The 40 tracks on this 3 CD box set cover many of the most popular and memorable pieces of music written for (or used in) films. There is a good selection here, ranging from the emotional `Hymn to the Fallen' (Saving Private Ryan) to the dramatic `Pirates of the Caribbean'. A slight word of warning, the collection is a mixture of original recordings (the music that was actually used in the film) and re-recordings by various orchestras. One such example is the Gladiator `Suite' which although may be the version regularly played on Classic FM radio it is noticeably different to the original, and for me falls disappointingly short of that used in the film. CD Collections of film music are largely covers collections, which are oftentimes disappointing, mostly due to the inability of some synthesizer guru to capture the complexity of the inherent dynamics of soundtrack music. Even if a genuine orchestra takes up the challenge, the result is more often than not shallow and uninspiring. This collection, however, was in many ways a pleasant surprise. Not only does the Prague Philharmonic manage to produce the emotional depth, but they also add various instruments where required - from harmonicas to boys choirs, from organ to electric guitar (where needed). In a nutshell, what you get hear is a good choice of cuts BUT little if ANY appear to have come from the ORIGINAL recordings :-( 50% of the tracks are fully orchestral versions, and some are actually very good such as The Ride Of The Valkyries and the BBC Orchestra's takes on the themes from Star Wars & The Empire Strikes Back.
