I have just played this double album and have to say it is a steal at the price. Volume varied slightly on a couple of tracks, but not enough to spoil these original recordings. A real good deal.

There should be more of these period music albums not just the '30 but all types of music tracks . This one has most of the really great music tracks of the times and although we think we are really fantastic in this day and age , when did you last take 'Ginger' out dancing with a top hat on ?

The clearance issue here clearly dents this box set especially near the end where there are some stunning omissions. Like it says in the accompanying book most R&B and hip hop coexisted as one and in many ways this is how the cds pan out. Yet there is no real evolution of how we got todays R&B and one gets a sense that more time was spent putting together the early stuff than the most recent stuff (currently the biggest selling genre in the name of Beyonce and Justin Timberlake). Case in point is the absence of MJ's Billie Jean: a mystery! So if you're an R&B you'll be pleased with Mary J blige's appearance but gobsmacked as too why there is no Salt N Pepa nor TLC.
