Matt McGinn's view of folk in Glasgow during his life-time is unsurpassed. His pawky, sharp-eyed vignettes (Bingo Bella, Gallowgate Calypso)don't present a cosy picture of the City, but are funny rather than cruel because of the affection that comes through. No matter how often I listen, these and many of his other songs (Dundee Ghost, Rob Rot McGregor) make me laugh out loud. A few of the songs are not brilliant (Little ticks of Time) and one or two, like (the Road to Aldermarston) might mean little to people any more, but most reflect his genius. Coorie Doon is still as touching as the first time I heard him sing it.

I really don't understand why so many people love this band so much. Oke they have written some catchy songs, buts thats not enough to fill a whole album. 4 "good" songs is not mutch for the money you eventually pay.
It's to easy. This album has to many shortcoming (lyrics, music, fantasy, etc.)
Of course they don't have to do a better job. Why should they? Everyone is just buying it because of the name. Who the Kooks!!!!!!
They are just a big commercial hit, like Good Charlotte, or Simple Plan and nothing else.

There are many, many better bands in Great Brittian, but most of them are never heard by broader public, thats a great pitty.

The Kooks have prooven with Konk/Rak that they've developed greatly from their first album.

Every song is distinguishable and keeps the joyful feel whilst listening.

Watching The Ships Roll In is a truely beautiful song and in my opinion is worth the extra £3 for the double CD album alone.

All the songs give the feeling that they have all had an even ammount of time put in to them, I couldn't find a bad song!

Konk/Rak is definitely worth every penny!
