If I could thank Mr McCall Smith for his wonderful novels I would!
This latest offering is wonderful! Both me and my hubby enjoyed it tremendously.

The previous reviews say it all. My first encounter with Robert Millar was a radio report on Radio Clyde the day after he won his first tour stage and as a 14 year old living in the West of Scotland I had the overwhelming urge to find out more about the guy. Now many years later thanks to this fantastic book I finally know as much as there is to know about Bob as is available in the public domain. Utterly compelling. If you saw a middle aged guy almost crying next to a swimming pool on a small Greek Island in June 2008, that was probably me finishing this book.
Brilliant.

The story of Chris Hoy - and Craig McClean and other trackies - is told in Richard Moore's new book. It's an inspiring read, especially when you discover about the pathetic state British Cycling was in in the mid-90s.

This book will whet your appetite for the Beijing Olympics, and give you confidence that Team GB are in wonderful hands.

This is like coming home to old friends and listening to their tales of what they have been doing for the last few months. I am biased of course as I live in Edinburgh and know that area extremely well, so a lot of the fun is picking out the places the characters go to and imagining them walking up and down the streets of Edinburgh. Alexander McCall Smith writes in a fairly ponderous, careful way, but he draws the characters so delightfully that you really feel about them and what they go through. All the old characters are there, Pat, Matthew, Big Lou, Bertie and his dreadful mum, Angus and Domenica - along with all their problems and joys. The book is completely charming and thoughtful in turn, with flashes of humour and fun showing through ... Read More:

this book was bought for me so i thought i'd better read it, but i wish i hadn't bothered! i very rarely give up on books ut i came close with this one several times. after giving it several "last chances" i wish i'd gone with my first thoughts and not bothered! the only parts i came close to enjoying were the bits about "the child genius" which were mildly amusing, but otherwise a load of rubbish!

Alexander McCall Smith always entertains and has a charm and wit in his writing. I always look forward to the continuing saga of the Folk of Edinburgh. My only gripe (and it is only a tiny one) is that it was written for serialisation in a newspaper and therefore often comes across in a somewhat bitty way not seen in the prose of a normal chapter. That apart give me more please.....

...if nothing else they are entertaining. This is the second in Alexander McCall Smiths 44 Scotland Street series. I absolutely loved the first one, and this didn't disappoint either. The stories of the characters we met first in 44 Scotland street are continued. I especially love the 6 year old prodigy Bertie, and his awful mother. Although I must admit to wanting to hit Bruce - hard! I do enjoy the way Alexander McCall Smith writes, there is real feel good factor to his novels. It won't be long before I read the third of this series which I have tucked away waiting to be read.

Have just purchased Cool Camping in Scotland and have spent the last two evenings deciding which wonderful site I will be spending my summer holidays at.

This book is wonderfully presented with clear text and stunning photographs - I now want to vist all the sites mentioned! These are the kind of campsites I am looking for - not full of statics and vans but well laid-out sites with adequate facilities and spectacular sights to see. This is how I want to spend my camping trips and this book has opened a new part of Scotland to me. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to camp away from the 'holiday camp' options.

It would be nice to see more sites in the East of Scotland but spoilt for choice in the North and West.
