Lonely planet - whilst it does consist mainly of written pages with just a few photographs and maps, is a perfect partner to the top 10. Here you will find the best resturants that usually the locals go to, which are value for money and of excellent quality. You dont need to read everything but if you want great places to stay for what ever your budget and like wise for eating out, then you will be very happy with your purchase. Of course it does also give you extra information about places of interest, which if you don't mind reading or have found in the top 10 but want a bit more info, then this is your book.

The Rough Guide to Scotland (Rough Guide Travel Guides)
After visiting Scotland for the first time recently, I realised that I wanted to know more at what I was looking at!
The Rough Guide is ideal...easy to find pages, photos, small histories, succinct backgounds....almost as much pleasure reading as when visiting.
Cannot recommend highly enough.

We use these guides all the time for where ever we travel home or abroad. They are excellent at identifying at a glance things you will want to see with out the hassel of having to trawl through loads of writing to find something of interest. The pages are well organised with lots of colour photos and plenty of recomendations. A definite must if you dont like having to swat before going on holiday.

For anyone new to Scotland who is intending to do some travelling around this is a cracking book. It covers just about any area of information needed from fauna & flora to transport options, general medical advice and detailed walking plans complete with maps. Even if you are not intending to do the walks it is still worth having just for the general information provided. Walking however, as the title implies, makes up the main part of the book and is very well done. Each walk is dissected, starting with a historical overview of the area and leading to information about what maps to take, the nearest towns, what to pack and a detailed description of the route. There is a small map for each walk, which gives a general idea of the terrain but ... Read More:

I am only 100 pages in but am extremely satified with my purchase. I've recently moved to Scotland and wanted to brush up on my history. Magnusson's book is a fantastic read- very well-written and researched and engaging to read. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a broad overview.

This is vital reading for anyone looking to improve their landscape photography. If you are reading this then I assume that photography is your hobby and that you have heard of Joe Cornish.
The book needs to be looked at time and time again, and it can be surprising how much is missed by just browsing, rather than careful and close study of the images.
Most of us want to get better at capturing our wonderful landscape, and it can seem as if this level is unattainable, but with effort I found that the book had indeed influenced how I view scenes and work the light.
If I would have a criticism of this, and every other photography book I have read, it would be that, whilst each image capture is explained at the end of the book the time ... Read More:

Great little book, easy to use. Accurate description of sites plus good tips. Interesting information provided about the area in general with some history. Could use a OS based map with the roads indicated on it, although the verbal directions are excellant.
