Bought this for my 8 yr old to build her confidence. Just finished real school yr 3 so the first CD Yr3 is a really good refresher. She sat there for ages with her friend working through the questions, then still was eager to continue until bedtime. The storyline & graphics were very good having to collect items going round the map to finally get the keys. The pleasure from the kids when they acheive each of the answers and stages was great to hear. Not sure they realised how much homework they did. Good for me to pick up on a lot of school work areas that she had obviously covered that I never knew she had learnt. Great !! She can't wait to get onto the next levels & CD's.

My Son absolutely loved this programme - and the Big Reading adventure. Once patches were downloaded it worked great.... on our old computer. Now we have a new system with Windows Vista is doesn't work. On the GSP support website the only advice was 'this product doesn't work on Vista'. Slightly disappointing to say the least - you'd have thought this wouldn't have been the case. Unless anyone knows of a workaround they'd like to share, I am afraid I cannot recommend this software.

I brought this software especially for my 4 year old daughter who is struggling with her phonics in school and was very disappointed with the letters game which is NOT sounded out in phonics. This is confusing for children and misleading as it does state it teaches phonics. The rest of the games are OK, but both of my children (3 & 4) got bored of it quickly. It is very reasonably priced, but in my view not worth buying.

The initial loading of the program is frustrating and I certainly didn't expect to be downloading fixes on a new product. The screen does not maximise to the full size of the monitor and this cannot be fixed as mentioned buried in the help text. I would have expected both of these things to be mentioned in the advertisement of the cd rather than being hidden within the cd itself. I would expect better performance from D.K and indeed Amazon. This is the first time that I have used the internet to purchase presents and I will consider more carefully before doing so again. I will be returning this product as unfit for purpose.

I found this software very useful and it kept my son engrossed for a long time, he loves the sticker rewards for each task completed. My only grip is that there are no instructions, although we quickly worked out how what to do once we clicked around a few times.

This software if full of bugs. We have received 2 patches from GSP but the system still freezes part way through the actual World Explorer game. Our son loves the game but gets so disappointed when the system just stops without warning. I wouldn't touch this product if you are running WinXP.

I bought this pack for my 6- and 7-year-old children, and they have very much enjoyed 'playing' with a number of the CD-ROMs. They are fairly well-designed (although some of the games tend to lead the learner to ignore the material being presented in preference for hunting prizes) and reasonably value neutral (Worst example I could find: in medieval Europe, the Christians taxed people and sent them on Crusades while the Muslims introduced architecture and philosophy). The problem is that these discs are nearly 10 years old and if I'd known that in advance I would never have bought them. The fact that the material has been republished by GSP means that the release date for the 'pack' (5 individual CD cases taped together) is somewhat misleading. But ... Read More:

I bought this software for my daughter who is very computer literate for her age. She happily worked her way through all of the Jump Ahead Year 1 series from Focus Multimedia Ltd and thoroughly enjoyed them. More importantly, she clearly learned a lot too. Perhaps it was because I was expecting the same level of engagement and explanation from Play and Learn: Science Experiments that I felt a little disappointed. The experiments simply aren't that engaging. Sure, they look good, but they don't actually explain very much. Worse, they are often fiddly where one small mistake forces the child to start again from scratch, e.g. the very small drop area when positioning the cars on the first experiment: If you miss, the car falls off the bottom ...
