TuneUp Utilities 2008 is perfect for home users wanting to speed up and fix problems (which always occur, like it or not) on their Windows machines. There are customisation tools, if you wish to make Windows look a bit different to the norm, although they can be slightly system-intensive, but run fine on more recent and more high-spec machines. The defragmenter tool is probably the most effective; there is usually a noticeable speed difference, and it runs more efficiently and at the same speed, than the in-built Windows defragmenter. Easy to set up, easy to use and very effective. Much better value than other, more costly disk utilities. Particularly good for cleaning up your registry files. No knowledge required.

In my opinion, the most effective and easy to use product of its type on the market. Totally erases your browsing history, totally obliterates files that actually remain on your computer long after they've been supposedly deleted from your Recycle Bin. Can even totally - and securely - wipe your entire system if need be. Nothing is recoverable. Maintains your privacy AND keeps your computer free of clutter and running at optimum levels. Well what can I say? I had no problems installing this at all - no probs with registering it and no probs with having to give any account details. I have it running on two machines at present - a laptop and a desktop - using the same key. On my desktop it found over 800 problems - admittedly most of them low-priority - just lost threads etc but it cleared up all of these problems and all those on the laptop and both machines are working much better now. So, unlike the other reviewers I'd have to say a thumbs up so far!

Those of you who are reading this are probably pretty computer savvy to even be considering purchasing such a product. In my opinion, that's probably just as well. These tools are designed to allow a 'novice' to effectively clean up their registry to rid it of those unnecessary entries. The registry being what it is though, is no place for a novice to be fiddling with. Being the heart of the computer, any incorrect changes will cause major upset to the computer, something a novice PC user doesn't want to face. The product itself appears very easy to use and has many 'one touch' options such as the optimize feature. This is all well and good but it never tells you what it's actually done! I took advantage of the 1 month free trial having read professional review. After some deep scanning it set about my system, tweaking internet, cleansing my registry and mending my disk. All fine so far. I then started to experience very slow windows start-ups, agonising freezes on program loading, blue screen starts to fix my disk (again). Every day another EMail urging me to purchase, including a sale day at half price. Meanwhile system gets slow and less stable. Then I have a brainwave....deinstalled product. My system now runs much quicker and is far more stable. If you do not have this product you have made a wise omission in my opinion. But maybe it was me...

System Mechanic Professional 08 (PC) Just bought SMP08 and it works smoothly up to a point, that point being "search for spyware" then it just crashes! Maybe this is a compatability issue with Norton, don't know 'till I uninstall. Price is good in comparison to simular products
