Software : Finale SongWriter - Notation Software

wondefully simple program for us who cannot be otherwise trusted with writing sheet music.

Difficult, because I thought I was better than this...
You simply must take a song that you already know, write the notes and practice to get everything right before you compose anything yourself.

I have used it without any instrument, composing directly on the computer keys, which feels a little awkward, when used to consulting the keayboards of a nice piano.

All in all, a bargain for the price!

Software : Finale PrintMusic! Music Notation Software - Win/Mac

Don't buy this as a cheap version of Sibelius. It is badly designed, comes with very poor instuctions and is extremely crash-prone. The worst music-typesetting programme I have ever used. Avoid.

It's amazing what technology can do these days (and sometimes what it can't do too). This clever bit of software strips the singer's vocals from CDs and then works like a karaoke machine letting you sing your own cover version over the music. It only seemed to work on about three quarters of the tracks we tried it on (it was brilliant on Robbie Williams, superb on Britney but it mangled the Sugababes - no harm done then!). But when it does work it's absolutely jaw dropping. We just sat there clicking the voice on and off for fun. It also will speed up or slow tracks down, change the pitch and add effects like reverb. If you like a particular performance that you've recorded you can save it as a file that you can burn to a CD.

This is superb ... Read More:

5.Finale Allegro from: CODA

Software : Finale Allegro

Allegro is advertised as offering powerful notation facilities but "without the advanced engraving features of Finale" (which costs some £400).

Some of the omitted features are quite small but are enough to make a score look messy. You can't change the length of stems when two parts on a staff overlap, for instance. You can't change clef in the middle of a bar. You can't beam notes between the two staves of a piano part.

Achieving good usability in scorewriting software is difficult and nobody seems to have solved the problems except in very expensive packages. Allegro is reasonable but there are annoyances. It isn't easy, for example, to move notes in a chord in one part ("layer") on a staff into different independent parts. You ... Read More:
