I chose this from Amazon Vine as I felt I needed some protection for my laptop. Loads of people I know have it, I wish I'd stuck with the one I had which wasn't causing any problem. Now it's on, it just sits there on my computer changing from green to yellow to black depending on whether the site I'm on poses a threat for example. But good grief, installing it was a nightmare. It should be easy. I've installed software before. Pop the CD in and off you go. Not in this case. I had to reboot 5 times. It took a couple of hours. It completely crashed my laptop. Bought for new Vista machine plus to update old XP laptop. Worked without a problem for both machines. As a 3-computer installation set it makes it even better value. Auto-updates work well. No conflicts with adaware. Works smoothly and easily.

Quite frankly, I gave up on McAfee security software even earlier than I dumped Symantec/Norton, but I was pleasantly surprised by McAfee Total Protection 2008. That being said, I have to issue a caveat here. I did not install this product on my primary computer, as I'm quite happy with the security software I've been using - but I figured I would give this software a try on one of my secondary computers. My parents use this particular computer more often than I do, so I basically just needed something to help safeguard an email client and keep nasty web entities (viruses, spyware, adware) at bay during limited Internet access. Dear Hopeful Buyer, I cannot beginning to express how disappointed I am with the this product. I am not one who would usually write a review, but my disbelief at the poor customer service, pushed me to warn as many as I could. For starters, this product is really overpriced, considering how little it actually does. Even after doing a full PC scan and successfully detecting 2 Trojans and one bit of malware, there was no action taken to remove it. Nor was it quarantined.What then is the point? I might as well have open the window and throw my money outside. I then call the customer service and was informed that I would have to pay a £1 a min, to even speak to techinal support.This is crazy , nobody should ... Read More:

I think I would rather suffer from viruses than deal with McAfee's rubbish software any longer. When I installed it I chose not to have the Spamkiller option as it is just useless and ever since then it pops up a message with a very annoying accompanying tone a few times a day to tell me that I need to reinstall it. There is no way I can find of removing this message which is very frustrating. Today I have decided to remove the software and advise everyone I know against buying it because when I turned my computer on it told me that I was unprotected; so I clicked the 'fix' button which has never worked to date. I purchased this from Amazon, having previously purchased the McAfee Internet Security Suite (which I would rate as 5 stars based on my own experience), mainly because of the number of adverse reviews for McAfee ISS 2007. Wish I hadn't heeded these reviews and remained loyal to the McAfee ISS, as this software is not as good, slows my machine down much more and interferes with the functioning of other key software loading on start-up, requiring me to manage the start-up procedure manually rather than relying on the auto start-up. I also needed to contact the HP helpline as it identified files as PUPs which were part of my computer's basic software [thankfully HP were very helpful in resolving this problem].
