In addition to the horror stories I've heard and read about Vista, I'd also read that the Home Basic edition is basically like XP and therefore not worth getting. Though Vista may have been dis-functional in 2007, the 2008 edition of Home Basic with Service Pack 1 is anything but XP! Installation was painless and despite my motherboard manufacturer not offering Vista compatible drivers, Windows Update made easy work of finding current VGA, Network & Audio drivers to run my Motherboard under XP. Yes listen to what I have to say cause it will save you money and hassel in the long run. Vista needs just on it's own 1GB anything else you want to run on that you need extra ram so minimum you speaking about 2 GB. Another clever thing is if you upgrade the hardware that's it your copy is invalid again you have 3 days to phone microsoft and hope they activated or send you to a website and troubleshot it yourself. I would like to know what microsoft has thought about when bringing this into the market. Suppose to be more secure not in a million years it's bugy and a security risk yeah there way of calling this secure is to implement 50 security warnings pop up before you can run a program. If you don't believe me check google what businesses think ... Read More:

Paying near 70 quid for an old Windows version that in turns needs half a gigabyte of ram and excels with a one Ghz or faster CPU just to create a media centre is a bit too much for my budget.

I bought a new laptop and got Vista Business pre-installed.
It's not OK. Really I think I'd rather have XP. Mostly Vista is just XP but dresses like a tart.

Performance somewhere between OK an sluggish. Which is pretty much how I felt about XP. Vista is a great consumer of resources for little in the way of noticeable benefit. The interface is pretty - but basically the MS desktop reached the height of usability with 95.

Internet Explorer 7 with dynamic security protection, which is immensely irritating, hard to configure and still not a match for FireFox.

Networking: MS Windows 2000 made everything clear, XP made setting up network options more obscure by adding idiot tools (Wizards). Vista has taken catering to morons ... Read More:
