This product came through today, and here I am typing this review out with, I can't believe it I've suffered with dyslexia all my life and this feels like I have just been released into a whole new world, if like me you've always been afraid to type a review, then fear no more. Get it, try it and don't worry about the bad reviews, you want be disappointed.

My young daughter is dyslexic and successful dictation is a marvellous aid for her. Up to version 9, DNS never really captured her voice very well. Now, with the Special Training option in DNS10, the improvement in recognition of her voice is stunning. For someone who has struggled for years to get her thoughts fluently onto a printed page, this is a great step forward. We installed DNS10 on a new laptop with Vista SP1, so perhaps that helped us avoid the upgrade issues which others have described.

Beware this product if you have Windows Vista 64bit - IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE!! The description on the Amazon page only states Windows Vista with SP1 but on trying to load it, it refuses to load. Nuance apologise and say they are looking into producing a 64bit version, but with no date.

Everyday I spend countless hours on the computer, typing. This product has changed that. I'm very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone that really wants something like this. You need to put in a little bit of time to figure out how it works, but it's worth it. Details below. On system requirements: On my computer, the program runs smoothly (Windows xp, with 1 giga of RAM, 2.4 GHz dual processor). The box says that with 512 MB RAM and 1 GHz processor it would work ( I'd go a little higher on that). On their website they have a list of microphones that will work but they don't have a list of sound cards, rather they say you need a Sound Blaster 16 (which I couldn't find anywhere). Mine just happened to work, but I'd check that out ... Read More:

Instead, use Copernic Desktop Search 2 and fine tune it so that only PaperPort folders are indexed. This search engine is free for home users and produces almost instant results! Furthermore, its indexing proceeds rapidly when your computer is idle. Unlike PaperPort's primitive indexing, it only looks for new additions. The combination of these two programmes produces the perfect answer for anyone who needs to quickly find data residing amongst thousands of scanned files, pfd files, word documents, etc.

I was wary of buying this software, after previous experience with Via Voice some years ago. Busy work schedules and pages of meeting minutes to write, persuaded me to try Naturally Speaking Preferred, and it has been excellent. Scansoft have just launched version 9 (July 2006) but version 8.10 works very well. Amazon suggested using the Plantronics DSP-100 headset with Naturally Speaking, but the speech quality was poor. Save your money and use the headset that comes with the software; although not that comfortable, it works.
