Very disappointing that the CD-rom has no audio component to it.While the content is good just reading text on the screen is really no better than reading it out of a book. Also the description on the cover of the CD-rom is misleading because it states that a sound card is required which would ordinarily suggest that there would be an audio component. Having opened the packet there is obviously no way of returning the item.This applies to the Science CD-rom as well.Haven't tried the English one yet and very unlikely that we will after our experience with the Maths and Science CD-roms of this series.

Incredible game! Amazing, you feel in the game, it's got OK graphics, you can change your views so you feel like the driver. The cool lego brick world, you can totally blow up! But, as soon as Lego Racers 2 came out, I've compared the two, and Lego Racers 2 is 101 times worse than the original! Buy this cheap game, but only buy no. 2 if you want to put the gamer off LR. Hopes this helps

My just 5 year old has been using this for a week and knows her colours and quite a few other French words. The games are completely age appropriate for the target users (box says 5-8 and I think that's about right). There are games like: dress the bear; play hide and seek with the mice; pick friends up round town for a party. There are two ways to use: level 1 (click around and learn the vocab) and level 2: play a game with it to earn stars for a reward. This will work best if you sit with your child for the first time through level 1 to stop them getting daunted - then they're away! French is spoken by native speakers and is nice and clear. At this price and in this day and age you would expect some well designed software to run on Windows XP. However, in common with quite a lot of DK software I've seen, you have to be logged on as administrator in order to run this. I don't know about you, but I don't really want my 3 and 4 year olds using my PC as administrators. As for older children, I dread to think what they might try! So I would say if you run XP then don't buy this, or any other Dorleen Kindersley software until they learn to design their programs to run on your operating system.

I bought this pack for my 6- and 7-year-old children, and they have very much enjoyed 'playing' with a number of the CD-ROMs. They are fairly well-designed (although some of the games tend to lead the learner to ignore the material being presented in preference for hunting prizes) and reasonably value neutral (Worst example I could find: in medieval Europe, the Christians taxed people and sent them on Crusades while the Muslims introduced architecture and philosophy). The problem is that these discs are nearly 10 years old and if I'd known that in advance I would never have bought them. The fact that the material has been republished by GSP means that the release date for the 'pack' (5 individual CD cases taped together) is somewhat misleading. ... Read More:
