This is a trawl of text only diagrams. All fascinating facts and excellent drawings but dead in terms of encouraging further searching and reading. The opening of the disc is great and there are some great (very short!) 'movies' of the woolly mammoths in various scrapes. Yet, once you've watched these the following questions are cold and boring, in our sons' opinions. You type in the answer. A little farty sound if you're wrong and a cheerful ting if right. Not very exciting. If you can't think of the exact wording or spell it exactly you get the farty sound! (actually, that's quite a good bit!) New searches just reveal more pages of illustrations as you expect to see them in a book. There are lots of links to other things of related interest. ... Read More:

You would have thought that with entire encylopaedia being fitted onto a couple of CDs these days, that a product such as this would contain a true wealth of detail both visual and textual. Unfortunately, despite the misleading list of "features" in the product info, 3D World Atlas is disappointingly simple and suffers from a very poor user interface that makes searches/browsing unwieldy. The maps are basic at best and the whole "3D" thing has an unfortunate 1980s video game appearance. For those expecting the the graphic detail of a hardcover world atlas on a disc, 3D falls some way short.

Bought for an inqisitive, intelligent 7 year old granddaughter who has done history projects at school. We wanted to learn more about the great fire of London and the times of Charles II but found virtually nothing. Encyclopaedia Britannica 2007 Children's Encyclopedia is very good for American education but most disappointing for use this side of the Atlantic. The name is misleading it should be Encyclopaedia Americana. The index includes minor US authors but ignores such as J Austen, H G Wells, R Kipling and many other examples. We wish we had found better ways to spend our money.

This is a very informative, quite fun, PC Encyclopedia. It involves: -The history of space travel, -The knowledge we've gained in recent to ancient history, -Lists of the objects in space (from black holes, to the hubble telescope), ...and much much more, including games. Its a very interesting and entertaining CD suitable for the more educated, to the enquiring childs mind alike. Definatly worth a buy.

I approached this "game" (is that an adequate description? Perhaps "fun learning experience" would be more appropriate, if rather unwieldy) with a degree of trepidation. Comments on Amazon (I believe from an American teacher) painted it in a less than flattering light, with reference to various technical shortcomings among other criticisms. However, I need not have worried. The dreaded long loading times were nowhere to be seen, and the variety of information and activities, along with the impressive video clips and narration, make this both entertaining and enlightening. True, it's a few years old now and so somewhat lacking compared to the latest PC extravaganzas, but that barely detracts from its massive scope and enormous achievement. It's ... Read More:
