despite it saying BOTH on the box AND on the amazon page, there IS NO WORD BALLOON feature! It's a goddamn con. Sure, you can draw your own word balloons but you can do that in any other programme, either save your money and don't buy this or shell out for the EX version.

The CardScan is one of those products that you wonder why people buy until you get one and can see the advantages. I keep all of my contacts in outlook but that means having to read the small print on business cards and the type the information accurately in. Like most people I just end up with a pile of cards not entered into Outlook. After loading the software just plug in the card scan devise. It's solid, well made and does not slip on the desk. You can feed cards in at about the rate of one a second and it takes a copy of the scanned image and uses OCR software to populate the fields in its own contact manager software. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer thought this software did that it doesn't do. I have used Adobe Premier Elements in the past but wanted something simpler. Movie Factory doesn't give you multiple tracks for video or sound but most people don't need that. Some of the features can be a little hidden because of the focus on ease of use and wizard type editing but I find the Mark in/out trimming easier to use than Adobe. It is also a fraction of the price of Premier Elements. It would have got five stars but it has crashed once.

I've been using the Painter Essentials 3 with my Wacom products for the past year and only recently did I become aware of the existence of Painter X. I'm still using the trial version but I shall be registering before the month is out. It's superb, the brushes are amazing and produce some highly realistic results. It's a lot easier to use than photoshop but I guess that one's more for photograph touch up stuff. I love the rotating canvas tool, very VERY handy. It does have a few bugs though, be aware of that. Nothing to really get upset about though.

I use both pc's and macs: DTP for the mac is expensive, albeit powerful. I wanted something easy to use, but with enough functionality to be able to produce basic design work. PC's are well served in this area and I was glad to come across this package for my home iBook. One thing I look for is ease of use and this application is easy although slightly different from other applications I have used. Anyhow, I was able to load it and be up and running, producing a design straight away. There is a learning curve to using it, but this makes it all the more interesting, without the need to be a rocket scientist to get the best out of it. Cheap to buy, but high in user value - easily 5 stars!
